Glaston Cave
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:23:49 AM »
Well, it's been a long time and a lot of work but I pretty much got the new Glastron Cave completed. No electricity?..yet. Paint to come soon too. And a little landscaping.

I got both my boats in there and I still have room for two more. I only need to get my Montclair in there so I have room for one more boat if any of you are still looking for storage.

I should be able to fit your rig so long as it fits under an 8' door, is 9' wide or less, and less than 25' in length.

You will get a secure building in a safe neighborhood to lock your boat up in. Concrete floors and hopefully mouse proof. I don't plan on plowing the grass to the garage so if you need your boat in the winter for whatever reason it may be difficult to get it out. As far as price goes I was looking online and looks like most places charge about $250 for boats in our size range. I will offer this space for $100. My property insurance will not cover your boat if anything were to happen so you will be responsible for insuring your own boat which hope you have already anyway!

Located in Hudson WI.

Classy looking garage jason, like all the work you do.

When we built our house in 1977, I could have and should have built the third car garage. Have spent more in boat storage fees than what it would have cost for the 3rd stall.

My garage I built up north to store my SeaRay and Glastron was at least twice as big as I needed when it was started. Before it was even done being built my wife went out and bought her pontoon. Let my brother store his Intimidator in it one winter. Now there isn't even room for that. They fill up quick! ;D

Nice job Jason. You even got fancy with a decorative roof dormer. I also built mine with one 16' and a 8' door.

Jason,

Any chance I could ask for a ballpark as to how much a nice place like thats costs to build?  How much was contracted versus blood, sweat, and tears hands-on by you?  I need a man cave just like that, have the land space, but am lacking a plan and a budget.   Just looking for ballpark ideas... $15k? $20k?, $40k?  Let assume its empty inside, bare unfinished with gas & electrical.

My current garage it far too short, and I had to cut the trailer for a hinge to allow the 19.5ft boat to fit with only inches to spare from the bow (sterndrive removed).

Your building looks awesome!

/Chris

Well, to have the entire thing built by contractors would have costed $30,000. The only thing I hired out was the slab and block work. That was $5000. It costed me about another $8000 for materials and I finished it off myself. I just went to Menards on there computer designer and designed it. It figures out everything for you. Drops all the materials off at your house and it's up to you figure out how to put it all together. So, by doing the work yourself you can pretty much cut the cost in half. I have never taken on a project this big and was for the most part new to me. Books, youtube, and neighbors can teach you a lot.

Very nice. I like that added "dormer" on the roof. I also noticed you put a taller door on the 8 foot slot. Good idea. My 175 windscreen barely clears a 7 foot door. You can never make it too big. I cant believe I filled mine up. If I had the funds, I'd like to and have laid out plans to add on to mine to add two more stalls and an additional 700 sq feet for my wood shop. The bid on that slab (24x50) and a course of block was 7500.00 so I quickly put that on hold!
Like what you did on the gable end with the different siding too.
You're pretty fast. Got all the soffit and facia on too! How come you didnt trench electric out? Another permit I suppose. I guess I did mine after the fact too. Ran phone too. I stuck mine in PVC conduit too, just in case.

Seeing that my attached garage is already fully insulated I don't ever see using this new garage as a shop. More for storage. If the town would let me build a poll barn that would be what I would have gotten, but a concrete floor was required. Electrical will come later but will let some funds catch up first.

Looks like yours is a big 4 car. That's what I originally had planned but Jamie says "I don't want the entire front yard to be a garage" so this was the compromise. Plus I had to reserve a section for gardening tools!

Wrapping up the painting today!

Jason that came out really nice. Congrats. Just curious, was that $100 per month?
I'm building a garage as we speak.  They did the slab couple weeks ago. Its a steel building. The rest goes up next week.

$100 for the season! Sounds like the spot may be taken. Can't wait to see your's when yours is done Andy. At least you don't have to worry about getting it done by the time the snow flies!

Just finished her up today. I made this slide show of the progression.
