Barb Broke It !
« on: October 19, 2010, 12:20:23 AM »
Barb and I took a trip to lake of the Arbuckle's where her Intimidator is to tinker with it some, take a ride to see what speed we could record before we winterized it.  I took my tool bag, and Barb took her "tool purse"  we set the timing and dressed up the points set, took it to the lake,  Barb was kind to it, opened the throttle kinda gradual like to start with, then she opened it up, trimmed it up and just about the time it was passing 64 mph ... ya had to be there ... Barb's eye's got Big as silver dollars as the drive developed a sever vibration.  She pulled the throttle off and raised the drive to see what the problem was ... She Broke It !

Breaking a blade off will get one's attention for sure. Was the break because of a stress crack or because of hitting something. The torque tab looks alittle slanted. Was there any damage to the lower unit? Who was the manufactor of the prop?

It could have have been worse. October seems to be the month in which everything happens.

there was an obvious stress crack at the hub, discoloration, just a little damage to the torque tab, and Yes, it was quite a viberation

sever vibration

Man, enough bad luck!!! I think I'll leave my boat out of the water next October.  :)

I know what that's like, lost a blade a few years ago as well, and you're not kidding about the vibration being severe!  Great looking boat though Red, Barb, Sweet ride!

Barb - I'd take that torque tab off. That boat has power steering so it is not needed.  My CVX18 also had one and the first time I put on a prop w/raked blade I had interference problems.

Is that Intimidator stock?

Yikes!  I would have slopped my drippers too!  ;D

I can't say I ever have ever thrown a blade off a prop .... I did drive my old inboard home without a rudder once, after a log robbed me of it. That was fun.

Hi Andy, and Yes, barb don't live far from me, we met at the boat show this year, in fact we were talking about you yesterday, that maybe you have some idea of where to get a set of the muffler inserts for her boat.

Not sure where. But I can take some pictures of the ones that came off mine.  You could probably re-produce them.

The picture on Tibus is of a Supertrapp exhaust system.
Get your measurements of pipe and goto link posted in above post.
Supertrapp make good stuff and has been around for years ...
Had one on my scooter years ago, the more baffle plates you put in the less restrictive it is ... and louder it gets.
You can fine tune your back pressure.
