Title: Canceled the trip
Post by: OleRed on May 29, 2012, 07:10:50 PM
I've canceled my trip to Rathbun ... and I told Barb,  I don't blame her it she cancels too. the weather is an issue, but my reasons are because my boat was'nt ready. nor was my old van, I just spent more time on other boats than I did my own, I've got satelite so my compute, tv, it is shuting down momenterily .. 3" hail   you think I'm gonna pull my boat out in that ?  Barb dont't have that option ...I don't like this weather !  and I'm Not  coming to Rathbun.  I'll spend the next few days getting the boat ready for a trip down south ... with my buddy Pete, and a free dinner at Fish Tails.

That's a bummer. Dottie says she doesn't feel quite as bad now. Next year we'll all be ready and healthy.

Holy crap!  I'd hate to get hit by a grapefruit ... never mind a frozen one.  Please stay inside!

I'm disappointed at the loss of opportunity to meet, Red.  Unfortunately, weather is one area outside my control.  I'll be there at Red Wing this time.

Sorry you guys won't make it it would have been nice to meet all of you. But I do under stand your reasons, I just spent around $2500.00 this spring getting my Yukon in shape for the trip. General maintence mostly, brakes, tires but some major also, fuel pump and spider gears in the rear end.

And for the weather, well all I have to say is be safe and stay indoors.

The weather men lied .. the hail was only about 3" at my house, been on a generator for the last few hours, just got  power back, the hail beat the hell out of my truck, knocked the windshield out, $500 deductable, two windows out of my house, and a couple side windows out of the "Fox Den"  haven't talked to Barb yet, but it looks like the worst of it went through her place ?

Little tornado went right over our house, I opened all the doors and windows, and the "fradie hole" in the floor to find out there is a 1/4 stream of water been running under my house from "who knows when"  my little buddy Mike will be over tomorrow to get some plumbing expereince.

Have fun at Rathbun,  I'm really sorry I couldn't make it.

Red:

Sorry about having to go thru hail damage.  I had it April 10, 2011 in La Crosse, WI, with 2.5-3 inch ice.   Neighborhood looked like there had been a drive by shooting.  Everyone lost roofs, siding, gutters, some windows.  After about 14k into a new shingled roof, gutters in October, we got hailed on again on May 5th, 2012.  This time it was 50 cent sized, downspouts were dented, but insurance adjuster said no damage to shingles.  Well, this is what insurance is for, but it isn't fun to fight with them and hire contractors.   I am convinced that we should be installing roofing materials that cannot be harmed by hail, there is a recycled tire rubber product from Calgary, Canada that is supposed to work for this.  If I ever have to replace shingles again, it will be with a rubber roof that bounces the hail like super balls.

I was able to get 5 hours on my CSS19 on Memorial Day to break in the new mercruiser lower unit. (hit a rock wing dam last August)  As advised, I kept the rpm no higher than 1200 for the first 4 hours, then took it up on plane, not exceeding 2000 rpm a couple of times then back down.  I was told to stay at less than half throttle for 10 hours.  What is your suggestion regarding break-in of lower units to prevent gear damage?
