What Winter? Goldie Bow Cover fitting
« on: January 07, 2012, 08:53:17 PM »
Mid 40's again today...couldn't take it any longer...started trimming down the walkthrough area trying to get the bow cover to sit correctly.  When I put the floor back in, I used 3/4" ply and mounted it a bit higher...so...that changed the geometry of the bow area.  (Not an issue when you don't have the bow cover!!!)

Need to trim a bit more tomorrow!!!

Final trimming complete, fits good!  I should be able to mount the hinge pins to the bow now.

Yep!  The next plan is to bend a center plexiglass section to have it closed for trailering & mooring.

Looks good from here Doran. Like the idea of a center w/s section too. How do you plan to attach it?

I had thought about 2 pegs on either side, that I could slide the windshield into to lock it in place.  Honestly...haven't made it that far yet.

I need to figure out how to latch the bow cover down first.  The factory method uses metal 'hooks' that will tear your skin off if you scrape them walking through the bow...so gotta come up with something better.

Any suggestions?

Nice work Doran, once again your patience and perseverance pays off!  The fit is first rate, IMHO.  (Love the photoshop rendering with the center windshield, can't wait to see how you work that out.)   ;D

Well let's face it, it ain't ever gonna look that good. Heh heh. Oh well, assuming it's relatively smooth in that section of the windshield(s): Think what I'd do is trim a flat sheet to fit the opening, bevel the edges to match the deck & radius in the existing w/s. Once ya get it fit right set it in place & glue a couple 2" ears on the backside so they're flush with the inboard, vertical wings on your shield. After the goo dries drill a couple 1/4" holes through your w/s and the tabs, add a couple quick pins & yer good to go.

This is the best I can do on short notice ...

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll bend it in place to match the windshield...and on the bottom have 'tabs' so it can slide off and on.  A couple of pins or something to lock it in place underneath on the cover.  It has to move with the cover...so it can bounce with the cover and not put pressure on the windshields on either side.

A little weather stripping to seal it up...and viola!
