I built this one a couple months ago. Cheap and really sturdy. I can get you dimensions if you need them.

Thanks for the replies guys. 'Preciate it! Gonna try to knock one out this weekend. Plan is to lift the 140 off'n the C500, set it on the stand. Then lift the 90 off the Baja & set it on the Carlson. Then lift the 140 off the stand'n hang it on the Baja. Then lift the 90 from the C500'n put it on the stand. I think that's right ...  Phew!

Been there, done that. I ended up having to build a 2nd stand as I only had one transom to hang a motor on.  Sold the 2nd one to a neighbor for $50. Paid for both I build.

It's called "Musical Motors."

looks good!

I need to build one now to hold a spare outdrive i have for my 140 mercruiser. It's been tipping over in the garage for over a year now!

Thanks Jason. Coincidentally now that I've been reminded how much I like woodworking, my next project'll be a stand for the spare gearcase.

FYI: Small Flaw in Motor Stand Design
« Reply #11 on: May 19, 2012, 04:37:18 PM »
Found a slight flaw with this stand design last evening. Me'n Bobby Beer were preparing to yank the gearcase off'n the 90 when we discovered the aft support on the stb side blocks access to the trim relief screw. Whoopsie! Right angle driver was of no use, nor was the old grab the stubby screwdriver with vice grips trick. You really need to get in there straight on with a purty beefy screwdriver. Bobby, in his loveable overcomplicating way, had me entertaining thoughts of notching or drilling the 2x4 but I was reasonably sure I'd hit one'a the screws. Took a step back and said, well we could connect those trim motor wires hanging there to that battery sitting right over there ...?

I don't know if this'd be a problem for you Merc boys, might be OMC specific, but something to consider when building a stand. Well the good news is the gearcase is now off and in the capable hands of Mr Beer. He's gonna put a new water pump in it, gear lube, pressure test, etc. And then it's off to Bob's Machine in Tampa for nose cone'n low water pickup. WooHoo!
