newbie with a question about a GX-219
« on: May 17, 2012, 08:37:23 PM »
Hello everyone nice forum
A little about me I have a 1987 Cv-23 in black metal flake and white and using this forum I will be getting a new windshield.  Thank you
A friend at work said he see's a boat that kind of look's like mine so I went to look. I found a GX-219 1988 with a 7.4 liter chevy red and white. that's the good the bad is he says it been in the same spot for ten or fifteen years uncovered. So I talk to this guy he'll sell for the right price 3,000.00. It's totally faded full of wet leaves weeds growing on the seats. everything seemed to be there. The motor looked good he said they ran the boat 3 or 4 years ago but it doesn't look like it. The floor seems solid is that possible are they plywood? A few small chunks out of the hull nothing that can be fixed some jell coat cracking, duel axle trailer all tires flat. But from the road it looks cool sleek and sexy. So is it worth 3g's and hours of restoration or just walk away.
Thanks Otto

I have never even heard of one of those. 454 huh?! That would be fun. To tell you the honest truth, I would walk away. Sounds pretty ruff. $3K seems high to for the condition it's in. You have no idea the shape of the motor. Cracked block, ect. Tell the guy to get it up and running so you can water test it or walk away. Too many unknows. If he was asking $1000....then maybe.

I found these:

with a 454 that would be a nice boat.    I think $3k is way too much though until you can see it run though.
.. it is what it is ... and that is how it should be!

Ya I agree it'd probly be bad azz with a big block. But boy, even if it runs it ain't worth 3K. I can envision a resto like that costing at least 10K to complete?

You could wind up with $1500 into the trailer right off the bat. 4 tires, probly new bearings, mebbe springs, rollers, bunks, winch strap, lights, etc etc. And the boat? You better have deep pockets my friend!

Having said that, if it ran'n the outdrive was okay it might, might, be worth a grand.

I'd never seen that model before either, thanks for the pics'n specs Chris. Certainly a wide variety of engines/outdrives available? Yeah think I'd have to check the 7.4 Merc box myself too ...
