Fiberglassed the Cat ...
« on: May 22, 2012, 03:43:32 PM »
So I'm laying up the transom today ... Cali, my daughter's kitten, comes scampering out of the basement like she does several times a day.  Doesn't mind where she's going and tramples right through my pan of resin.

At first I thought, "Dummy.  Have fun getting that off you."  And after a few minutes she was under the trailer meowing something awful.  I decided the heat from the reaction was getting to her & it probably didn't taste good enough for her to lick her feet clean.

Poured me a fresh pan of acetone, grabbed the cat and plunked her down.  See how friendly a cat thinks you're trying to be when you're holding their feet down in an inch of solvent.  She did keep her claws in and let me rub her pads and between her toes.  She's not meowing anymore.  Was happy to come inside the house and eat.  Maybe this fiberglass stuff isn't so pet friendly.

Sounds to me like she wanted to be a hood ornament.

Cats are purty tough, she'll be fine. Ya I'll bet her tootsies were gettin a lil warm. Gives a whole new meaning to 'cat on a hot tin roof' don't it?

For whatever reason this reminds me of eons ago as a kid in Miami. Dad'n I painted the garage floor one evening, left the door up a hair to let some air circulate. When we opened the door in the morning there were at least a dozen lizards stuck to it. Naturally I freaked out, "We gotta free them!" So here I am trying to extract them with a scraper, probly amputating a portion of their extremity(s) in the process. But, for better or worse, managed to set them all free! 'Member my Dad saying, in his unimitable way, well hell their tails grow back so why not their feet ...?

I called up the vet ... he just said to keep an eye on her for vomiting.  If she's licking resin or acetone off her feet, make sure she's not being poisoned.
I kinda think that cats get tree sap and all kinds of other sticky crap on them.  They're animals & pretty well made to take care of themselves.  She did appreciate the help in getting cleaned, though ... sitting here in my lap purring away.

Yeah I doubt Cali's much worse for the wear. My dearly departed Uzi was a 'paws on' cat too, that lil sob got into everything. My Vet has a 42' DeFever Trawler if'n that tells ya anything ... Could write a book about Uzirat's injuries, ingestions, inhalations, adhesions, etc. Yet the lil bastard lived to be 17, which is a purty good run for a cat?

Nah, ain't him. Don't even look like him. Uzi was never a very good shot anyway. Always had trouble fitting his paw through the trigger guard. And to the best of my knowledge he didn't have any firearms of his own ...

His specialty as a kitten was hiding from my ex when I was at work. On at least two different occasions I got frantic calls from her, "I can't find Uzi!!! Wah wah wah." I said honey relax, he's fine, he'll show up when he gets hungry. On one of these occasions she called my boss and managed to persuade him into sending me home to find the dang cat?!

There he was, hiding in one'a my hemlets
