Outdrive Identification
« on: August 23, 2012, 11:54:38 PM »
I am finally getting some time to dig into my boat (85 CVX-18) and I have a few questions...
It is equipped with the Mercruiser 230 and Mercruiser outdrive.
I have examined the bellows and they look old and cracked. I also plan to go through the water pump
and change the gear oil while I'm at it.

Question is, the outdrive itself simply reads (Mercruiser 5.0) Is it safe to assume that this is an alpha 1?
For obvious reasons I need to get this figured out before I can order any parts.

Any help or insight would be appreciated!

If the boat is an '85 then the Alpha One drive would have been used ('83-'91).
