Oil Filter relocation kit
« on: August 23, 2018, 08:04:33 AM »
I am tired of removing my back seat just to replace the oil filter on my CV23. I have seen on other CV23's where the oil filter is mounted on a bracket on the Port side exhaust manifold. Anyone know where to find this kit or of any good aftermarket kits that I could remotely mount the filter somewhere else?

I would check someplace like summit racing for an aftermarket kit, then fab brackets to suit your own needs. Just one thing to note, I have seen people put the filters on upside down to make it even more convenient to get to, I did this on my ranger pick up with the V8, problem is the oil doesn’t drain out of the filter by gravity because of the check valve so it makes a big mess.

Along with aftermarket suppliers like Summit and Jegs, there are many applications that used remote filters, my Southwind RV with BBC has a dual oil filter/ cooler set up. You might be able to find a stock application in the boneyard.  Still another option is to find a boat being parted out that might have all the brackets and such.  BTW, beautiful Marauder, I saw it with the trailer, but your 16 was already in the water.

Did a Google search for "mercury 350 mag remote oil filter"
Some of the after market one's had bad reviews.
Mercury parts must still stock them or used.

What the heck was in the back of your truck ?
A Subaru engine ?

Thanks guys. I'll look around. I would prefer OEM but don't think it will bolt to my older style exhaust elbows. I THINK 87 was the first year for the newer elbows that allowed the oil filter adapter.

It was actually a Montclair. 1967. Great tow vehicle!

Yes Gregg, Was a Subaru engine. In the middle of swapping one out in a Forester.

I believe this was the bracket from a mag 350 been working like a charm. Lines just clear alternator and my hood fit which is what I was worried about it’s about as high as the risers

I took a quick look at eBay, found some deals, some complete others just parts.  I'm a fan of hard lines, then braided.  Not a fan of Barb's and rubber hose that the cheap kits have.   Depends on your exhaust manifold, my GLM's don't have the holes where the merc ones do.

Where does the bracket attach to the motor?

Sorry for late response but just used some vacant bosses on motor. Nothing complicated.

Ended up going with this one. The push on barbed fitting are very secure. We use them at work for pretty high pressures.

Happy to see your using Nebraska sourced parts!  Really neat place and museum.  Install looks great.
