New 74 CV-16 S/S Owner in MN
« on: April 14, 2015, 12:05:50 PM »
Hi all.

I am a new Glastron owner and also new to this forum.  In fact, I am even a first time boat owner.  Though I grew up in MN and my family has always had a boat of one kind or another.  I have always had an appreciation for the classic Glastrons... and one just sort of stumbled into my hands.  It is in great shape... nothing major needed.  We plan to use it straightaway on the small lakes close to our home.  We live in the Delano, MN area.

I only have a couple of photos taken by cell phone at present.  They are not the best quality... but I can provide better ones in due time.  I am amazed at the community of support out there for these classics.  Thanks to all who contribute to this site.  I am looking forward to contributing over the course of time as well.

Hi guys.

Yes, it was previously registered in SD.  I am in process now of getting everything transferred appropriately.

Since I am not 100% sure of the year, make, model, ... here is my ID number from the back panel of the boat:

GCVC1172M74A.... or maybe it is GCVO1172M74A?  It's a little hard to tell.  The title says 'GCVC' so I am going with that for now.

It is definitely a 140hp Mercruiser inboard/outboard.  I replaced the impeller for the water pump which was trashed.  Also put in a carb kit.  It now runs good in a barrel.  Can't wait to see if she floats. :)

If anyone can help me decipher the VIN that would be great.  Just want to make sure it is really a 74.

Mine is " GCVO ".

Your 1974 CV is in very nice shape !
Some one took very good care of that boat.
1974's came in Blue & white and have your dash arrangement ...

How did you find it ?
Wasn't on Craigslist, was it ?

CV16 did but not a CV16SS. Maybe it was a special order. I agree though, 1974 for sure.

The boat came into my father's repair shop in southwestern MN for a tune-up a couple weeks back.  The owner said he wanted to get it running well as he was preparing to sell it.  My dad knew I have always loved the G/C boats... and also knows I have been casually looking for a fixer-upper boat project for a while now.  So, my dad showed me the boat using his iPad... and I made an offer without seeing it in person.  The owner  accepted.. and I went down to my hometown and picked it up this past weekend.  So this boat literally "stumbled upon me".  It's not like I was really looking for any boat, let alone this particular make, model, or vintage.

My family is really excited about using the boat - we have 3 kids who are dying to go skiing and tubing behind it.  I realize it is a classic and should be cared for, but we plan to use it on a regular basis.

well my GT-150 is no where as smart looking as yer CV, but we drove it like we stole it :-D
IMHO using these old classics is part of what makes them great, and ya always get tons of complements.

You will not find anyone here saying that these boats shouldn't be used as much, and as often, as possible.  They are meant to be used, not sitting on their trailers...
