Title: Mature Content - Interesting E-mail
Post by: ChfBrianB on August 07, 2010, 08:16:07 PM
Hey everybody...  I just wanted to copy you on an e-mail that really upset me.  I got this on the CGOAMN e-mail address that I manage.  I wanted to bring it to your attention so you can keep your eyes out for this clown.

I'm sorry that I got a little heated in my response, but I took his e-mail as a personal attack, and a childish one at that.

Here is his e-mail...

Rick Dalos <rdalos1@comcast.net>  Sat, Aug 7, 2010 at 7:22 PM
To: cgoamn@gmail.com

This site is very immature...I tried to enter a request for a T-top replacement for my 1980 Scimitar.   Site logged me off.....I need parts and heard that this was the site to check.  What gives?  Is this a serious site or not?  If you care about rare boats, make it easy to navigate to where I want to go.  Good idea but not manged well.  I have to go elsewere.  Bummer.  Knock off the Christian *Censored *...does not work well well anywhere in the US.  Only creates suspicion....Boat intersts is a good draw.....but if thats your passon, get serious.....

Here is my response...

Brian Bergstrom <cgoamn@gmail.com>  Sat, Aug 7, 2010 at 8:11 PM
To: Rick Dalos <rdalos1@comcast.net>

Rick,
I don't know who you think you are, but your immature BS is not
welcome here.  I run the www.cgoamn.com website and am the
administrator of the club as a service to the 300+ members that we
have, and do it with no fee's or charges to anyone.  My members and
friends are all very pleased with the site, with the forum, and with
the fellowship that we share on a daily basis.

There is not one piece of "Christian *Censored *" on my website, so I don't
know where you get that crap. You may be confusing my website with the
www.classicglastron.com website.  We are NOT the same group.

I have a few different resources for T-tops for the scimitars, but
with your crappy attitude and accusations, I wouldn't even consider
giving them to you.

This is a very serious and respectful group of collectors.  We have
gone in membership from 25 to over 300 in 3 years.  Obviously you have
no idea what you are talking about, and with an attitude like yours,
I'm not suprised that you don't have any luck looking for what you
need.  My only sadness for you is that you have a boat that is much
better than what you or your behavior deserve.

If you have the nerve to make all these accusations about my group, at
least have the nuts to leave me a phone number or an address so that
we can talk face to face about your issues.

I look forward to your response and your phone number.  Hopefully you
have a logical excuse for the bull *Censored * behavior that you have given
me, but if not, I'm not going to waste my (or my quality club's)
energy on you.

All goes back to the "one hit wonders" if'n ya ask me Brian. I remain convinced that aholes like Rick Dalos are paid to disrupt/interrupt forums, your email, etc.

I have no doubt that they sit there & 'rake in' what matters most. Then construct an email to p*ss us off.

Christianity has nothing to do with it. This guy's a douchebag ...  Don't let him antagonize you Bri.

Take care.

Well...the fact that he couldn't log himself in and figure out how to post a "Want Ad" without getting booted...sort of says it all doesn't it?

Don't give it a second thought...Tools are everywhere.

Thanks for the support...  I hate being "that guy", but I don't ever think that disrespecting a person is a good way to open a conversation.  I wish that he would have just asked for help, and I would have gladly given it.

Oh well...  Thanks for supporting me.

Nah. It has been my experience there are better ways to start a dialogue ...

Relax Brian. Trust me. People like Rick Dalos are either getting paid, and/or getting off on disrupting forums. He's less than nothing. Forget about him.

I think Dorelse nailed it... and I know exactly what it's like, and have been in a position where I have had to react as well. I think you conducted yourself very well, considering. this IS a very well run site, and I think that perhaps frustration and maybe even jealousy (of NOT being a part of it) made him act the way he did, rather than trying to be a contributing part of it.

seriously, the site speaks for itself... no question.

IMHO the best response to an email like that is no response. I know it can be hard Brian but don't let stuff like that bother you, especially from someone like that. He's not worth a second of your time. Delete and move on! ;D

Hmmm ... the boat is in Mn. it's a shame he can't  "Chill Out"  and join us at Red Wing, don't be too hard on the guy,  he may sober up tomorrow and wonder who he sent emails to, and who he called on the phone,   just a possibility, but some have to much pride to create an apoligy when they act out like that.

Brian, for what it's worth, my opinion... I agree with CVX Fever, he's not worth your time and energy!    The people here, organization and web site ROCK! ... first rate all the way.    Keep doin' what your doin'... you're doing a great job and we appreciate it!

No doubt confused the other site with this site.   You run a first-class forum here Brian...  don't let one email get the best of you.

I am biased, but I think ANY site that supports the GC legacy is worth having, and nobody can say otherwise.  None of them are exceptionally hard to log into and a little respect goes a long way towards remedying any problems they may have getting registered.

Incidentally, we did have an issue with any user trying to register with a @comcast addy a long time ago on the classicglastron forum, but its been fixed for a while.  I will investigate again just to make sure it hasn't resurfaced.

[edit] re:  forums at classicglastron.com,  we have had new @comcast members as recent as 25-July so that's not the problem.  I suspect Rick may have been having difficulties with the CAPTCHA visual confirmation portion of the registration (prevents spammers) and perhaps just unable to complete it successfully.  We did not recieve an email from him.  <shrug>

Good response Brian. I think you restrained yourself well. We all know he is way off base about this group so P*censored* on him :)

Does it make sense to you that visit the other site that he would find a link to this one to spout off to?

Shall we all spam him? Maybe send some links to some *Censored* sites?  ;D

HHHHMMMMMMM ....
I watch new accounts like a HAWK !
Theres a Jim Dalos that signed up June 5th and never activated his account.
There is no account with his (rdalos) email address so he could not post, would have come up with something like "you need an account to post" warning.
He not in the "Ban or Deleted" log.
I have never had to ban or delete a Comcast members account.

" This site is very immature... "
BOY... I must have missed that ...

"  Knock off the Christian *Censored *... "
As my Mother always says ... A little religan never hurt any one !

None of it adds up ...
I think he had trouble with the CGOA site and some how emailed you.
Chris (glastronGT-160) if you got some free time could you dig around in your logs for him ?
Thanks...

Ok...  Thanks for all the advice everyone.  I'll try to not let something like this bother me.  I haven't heard back from him, so I'll just let it go.  Thanks for all the kind words,  i know that you all stand up for me when I need it.  You have helped me stay focused on what matters.

thanks again!

I've learned a bit more about him since yesterday.  Red has talked to him a few years ago and had some experience with him.  I assume that he was confused and most likely won't be around much.  I think that he was trying to get into the classicglastron forum and somehow got routed to us in his confusion.

I'm just going to let it slide, and if he confronts me again, I'll try to get more information and see what's really going on.

Yup, I did review the logs before my last post and like you, we don't have any unactivated users with those credentials.  Both Jason and I keep a pretty close eye on the registrations, given the history of spammers.  We have had surprsingly little issues with registrations over time; essentially none.

Like you I was extremely frustrated in the old forums immediately after the 'crash' from the old software (as Gregg when you see him).  While Jason and I do not own the CGOA site, we have been given full authority to keep the forums running smoothly in ALL aspects and I like to think we do a respectable job.  I'm sorry to hear that you haven't 'been there in years'.  Some of the references I've read make it seem like we run a ship thats 'too tight', but in reality we are as laid back as this forum.  Hope to see you over there sometime!

Sincerely,

Chris,
I can say that I am personally quite grateful for your efforts on THe CGOA site.  It's nice to know that there is a team in place that cares about what is happeneing there.  I feel like we have a good relationship between the CGOA and the CGOAMN and am happy that we have you in place over there!

Thanks for all you do!

For what it's worth things on CGOA aren't as 'strict' as they used to be. They've loosened up quite a bit. If yer subtle ya can still talk about beer & poontang ...?

In my opinion it does our Glastron Carlson cause a great disservice to 'boycott' a related site based on anything. Particularly politics or religion. There are a lot of good people over on GCOA. And we can all benefit from each others expertise.

Trust me. If someone as foul-mouthed & perverted as I can survive on CGOA? We all can! Give it a shot?

Being fairly new to both sites, (just after the first of this year) I was kinda puzzled about the comments concerning the CGOA site.  Since I've been around, I haven't had anything but GOOD things to say about the job Jason and Chris are doing over there.  I don't know anything about what happened in the past, I try to speak of personal experience only.  Seems to be a great bunch of folks with a common interest, lots of useful info and advise there too!  Just my two cents................ ;)

The simple answer is that there was some frustration when the owner of the site made a server change.  It changed the format of the forum as many people had been used to for several years, and there was a good deal of old posts, information, and pictures that were lost.  It was an unfortunate situation that they have learned from over there.

Running these boards and sites commonly are like being in politics.  It's hard to make everyone happy all the time, and when you make a mistake, it tends to stay with you for a long time.  The people over at the CGOA site are the same quality people that we have here.  They have simply gone through a rough patch with the leadership over there, and hopefully they have come out stronger (but smaller) as a group.

My goal is to continue to unite people with like interests in a healthy and safe environment.  The guys involved with the CGOA have the same goals, and I'm proud to support them.

I agree with the others. You should forget about this guy.
As far as the other site I simple got tired of not having my user name work and repeatedly changing it. Since the change to the latest format I just didn?t bother sign up again. Although I haven?t had much time to post anything lately on any site.
I understand people?s frustrations with the CGOA. There have been many issues including thins like ownership of pictures posted to using beer references. None of which bothered me that much (okay maybe the picture thing a little). The only issue I have had with Todd was related to a boat sale and had nothing to do with the site.
I feel a little more at home at this site as the people involved are close enough for me to come to a meet.
I think you guys should forget about this and have fun next weekend. Take lots of pictures for me.
Curtis

P.S. I cant complain about the main page too much as my boat was the picture on the home page for half a year back in 2003.

Your group of people and your website are the best.  I came to the group with a positive attitude, and all the members openly shared there knowledge and resources.  I was not even a member.  I just officially joined a few weeks ago.  You as Administrator, the club, and the website all have my respect and support.

I think what stung people most was the lack of warning. Then the lack of legitimate explanation or mebbe even some sort of apology afterward. SO much 'data' was lost! Service & repair advice, drawings/diagrams. Pictures of resto's from guys that are no longer with us, etc. A catastrophy! It makes me want to cry. Seriously.

But what're ya gonna do. Hold a grudge? Forever?! Sorry but that's about as dumb as "hating" tri-hulls ...
