Looking for a super clean set of valve covers (with labels) for a Merc 228 (305).
Anybody?
Thx,
Curtis

Welcome to the CGOAMN ccgQrs12 !
Sorry no help with valve covers ...
Have you looked on eBay ?

Greg, thanks for the greeting; I bought my first Glastron CVX several years ago and my CVX18 just last May. Great to make your acquaintance.
Yes, I've been looking for a while and missed a NOS pair back in July complete with labels the bid just went way to high ($350) but now I'm kind of thinking I should have bought them.
My "18" is such a sweet all original boat and I have a think for "original"; the gentleman I bought it from had replaced the original with a pair of chrome valve covers problem is you have to take the breather pipe off of them to put oil in it.
Anyways, something will turn up, eventually.
You lead a great group of folks and I hope one day to meet you; maybe fly up for one of the "meets"; maybe even talk someone out of a nice cvx20 jet :)
Thanks again for taking the time to post me.
Best,
Curtis

Welcome!
You should be able to find a decent used pair...even with the wrong decals on them and get new decals printed. Wouldn't be hard to clean up an old used valve cover set and paint them. That's what I would do.
Are you around the twin cities?

Welcome Curtis,
The good thing is your looking for a MerCruiser part, not something specific to a Glastron Carlson. So they shouldn't be too hard to find. Your CVX18 looks familiar!....LOL
I saw your post over on the national sight. If you haven't solved your problem with the burn't out indicator light for your bilge blower(I think) just PM me. I should have spare that you can have.

Wow, how'd you get my boat on your trailer :) I'm just too funny for my jokes! I keep trying to talk my wife into letting me put the CVX in the living room (I think it would make a perfect conversation piece) but she just looks at me, "clucks" (that tongue and back of upper toothe thing that she does), turns and walks away saying "good god how many phases can one guy have!"
My goal of course is to drive her so crazy that she just looses count!

GM:
I'm on the West Coast; Santa Rosa (60 miles north of the Golden Gate).
Yes, I probably will do just that. I'll just have to figure out how (the printing end); you know, getting the dimensions right, the material and all that.
If anyone knows of a print shop that does this kind of work I'd appreciate the lead.
Thx,
CG

Some members have gotten good pictures of decals, then went to local sign shop and got them printed.
I think finding a good picture of decal you need would be harder then finding a sign shop to do it.
Some one here or on CGOA should have a picture of decal.

This is what i had made at a local sign shop for my project , i had to buy a bunch of them to get a good price , so a Mercruiser decal should be pretty easy .
I still have a bunch of the silver Ford 460 decals if anyones interested . Gil

Wow! Some real pretty work and great advise; thanks. That's going to be the key, getting a good photo. If anyone thinks there's a need for the "260" as well let me know and I'll have those printed as well. I spent some time last night looking on google and on a few Merc websites but I've yet to find a good enough picture. I have a "Clymer" shop manual but the photo is black and white and grainy. Something will turn up with both covers and I can scale the dimensions. Thanks, Curtis

WOW!!! Really nice!

I can give you the sizes of the decals and pictures if you need them from my '79. This motor is coming out shortly, need a spare?....LOL

Are we sure they aren't available from Mercury? My engine builder put new ones on my 898 when he rebuilt the motor at his shop.

Curtis got your 3 PMs. Sent you back a reply, sorry about not getting back to you sooner.

I did a search for Merc 228 VC decals and came up NLA ...
Every where ...
-
Yup! I came up with the exact same results. I keep thinking I'm going to find some guy that used to own a Glastron-CArlson Dealership and he's got a storage locker somewhere loaded with NOS parts! Yeah, I know, dreamin! CG

I'd love the pictures, better yet why not sell me the valve covers and I'll send you the chrome ones I have for FREE :) Also, how's about the location of the dipstick? Mine is under the exhaust manifold; is this one of the variations? Shoot, it would sure make checking the oil a whole lot easier!
Sell me your valve covers; I beg of you! I'll send you a box of Wine! Sonoma County's best! CG

Anytime I'm in a restaurant I usually order a California wine. Awesome area hope to get back out there again.
Plan/hope to sell the whole drive system after the new one is installed. If it works out that I can keep the valve covers for you I will.
