Title: 5.7/Alpha Gen 2 Donor Boat in Bloomington for $1500
Post by: CVX Fever on June 16, 2013, 10:34:09 AM
1996 Celebrity with 5.7/Alpha Gen 2 drive. Guy is asking $1500. Boat has a broken windshield and bow damage but if the drive works and the motor runs this is a good deal. I remember this popping up for awhile on Craigslist and then disappearing 2 years back when I was looking. Never got a chance to call. Not sure why he still has it.

Anyone looking to repower might want to check it out and give the guy a call.

Here is his earlier add. He dropped his price from $1700

I saw that one, wish it was a little closer. It would be the ideal package for the CVZ-18 when it is done. But right now just don't have the room to store it and need to finish up Phoenix Rising. hope someone picks it up that is a great deal for that package.

The boat is in pretty rough shape.  Got it to fire and run for a few seconds then checked and found out there was no oil in it (wtf) talked him down a little more and then brought it home. Stopped and put 20 in gas and picked up a gallon jug of oil when I got home the gas was running out of the drain plug. Apparently the gas tank has a hole in it. So much for that gas it cheap anyway right. So then I put the oil in. Of course I did not check to see if the plug was in because who doesn't put the plug back in!!  So the 15.00 in oil was now in the bildge as well don't worry all the gas washed the oil out. I will get a drain plug and some more oil so I can run it tomorrow. For the few seconds it ran it sounded good. We will see tomorrow. Either way there is a lot of useful parts even if the motor would be bad.

Sorry Shawn, Can't stop laughing! So I suppose you didn't hook water up to it either. Really strange someone wouldn't put the oil plug back on. I hope it works out though. Would sure be a sweet set up.

If the block is good and not cracked your laughing. Even if it is, you still got a really good deal. I suspect the previous owner didn't realize the value/desirability of the drive and the motor alone. If you get it running and everything working you could easily get $2500 - $3000 for that drive system and another $500 minimum for the tandem trailer under the boat.

A marina told him 1700 on the value. I talked him down from the 1500 he was asking. Like U said even with a bad motor it was still a good deal. I am pretty sure the motor will be fine but we will see.

No I didnt hook up water was not planning on running it long just wanted to make sure it started and ran. I will hook water to it tonight

Starts and runs good no knocking.  Think the carb need cleaning because it wont idle very well but it runs at about 1500 RPM just fine

Does it smell like it's running rich when at lower rpms, just before it dies?  If it's a quadrajet, sometimes during a rebuild the primary metering rods get bent durning reassembly, so they aren't in the jets restricting flow.  If that makes sense.  When you take it apart, it should be very obvious if that's the problem.  We stopped and looked at a boat on our way to Rathbun this year, and it was having the same issues.

So you got a complete running/working 1996 5.7/Gen 2 Alpha drive system for well under a $1000 deducting what the trailer is worth. Ask Red how often a deal like that comes along...LOL

Like I stated in my original post he had that for sale at least 2 years ago so it has been sitting for a long time.

Trailer is not worth a whole lot I don't think. I think one axle may be bent. Is there any where to get a trailer alignment? If I could make sure it is ok then I may keep it for the 23 and sell the trailer that it came on. I will pull all the stuff I want out of it witch will leave  basically a bare hull. Then probably try to sell the Trailer with a free boat.

I did find out why the gas ended up in the bildge. The hose was not hooked to the tank. Guessing they pulled it off and drained the gas.

It has just a 2 barrel carb and you can see the gas sputtering and spiting into the barrels so guessing that is why it wont idle good.

It was in a heated under ground garage at his apartment so at least it was not sitting out in the cold for the last few winters.

Kremer Services in West St. Paul does a lot of trailer straightening and heavy truck body work. I have no doubt they could get that axle straightened or aligned. I have a friend who works there who does this. Let me know if you want to contact him.

Why would anyone put a 2V on a 350....... don't wast your time with it. Chuck that intake and carb and find a nice 4V.
