Title: Missouri River August 30th
Post by: 75starflight on August 20, 2015, 09:23:31 PM
Well here is the plan. Mike and I are planning a run from Dodge park in Omaha to the Cottonwood Cove north of Blair for lunch. After we are done checking out the new cottonwood we are planing a leisurely float back down river past downtown Omaha and then power back to dodge park.  If you can join us that would be great.

We plan to depart dodge park Around 10am on August 30th

Excellent, forecast is 89 and sunny.  We have another couple joining us in the CVZ.   Doubt we can all sit together for lunch, may have to call ahead to see if they can reserve us a table.

As Yoda would say, there is no try, there is do or do not.   What do you need to prepare for the outing, love to have  you and the 23 out on the river.

Just need to find the right length alternator belt.  I can live without the rudder for now.

Tim, send shawn a message. I think his 23 jet is a 460.

I looked at several 460 jets, they all had the alt in the upper right hand corner.   Bring it over Saturday, might go to Carter lake for some river pre testing.   Its likely that I have a belt that will work for ya.

River is higher than normal, so may not be very much sand exposed.  Weather forecast is good, no warnings or debris in the water.  Looks like everything is a go for tomorrow, Sunday Aug 39th.  Only one dock each on north and south ramp.  I will probably put in and tie off before 10am and wait for arrivals.  Probably discuss the days plan with the group at 10-10:15 so everyone knows what's going on.  Hope to see a few Glastrons.  Michael

Awesome, what's it look like for a meet?  Any plans to get a campground built?

IMO, I think it will eventually make a great place for a meet. We had lots of people looking at the boats and asking questions about them. I have been in contact with the owners once and I will plan on contacting them again and letting the know who we are. As of right now there is still alot of rebuilding going on yet along the river there are currently no fuel docks on the river. The one at NP Dodge park is being rebuilt.

As of right now the Cottonwood Cove would make a great place for us local people to make a day meet out of it until things can get a little more rebuilt.

Thanks for taking photos, I got so busy with everything else I didn't get a chance to take any.  Lots of fun, we finally powered up and headed south, put out around 6pm.  Will have to consider this trip again next year.  Not quite ready for a meet yet, but a fine day trip.  There is other camping opportunities and other boat ramps.  Maybe over winter give it some thought.

His name is Trent Barton and he is a marine mechanic and used to work for a glastron dealer here in nebraska.  Fresh rebuild on the structure. I think he said 62.8 gps. Nice guy and a lot of knowledge. sounds like he may try to make the tip north next year. He is on the facebook group, I am trying to get him to join here.

I thought he said his top speed was in the 64-65 range, and further stated that great care was taken to make it look like an 85 hp head.

I think you are more on the mark for speed, I knew it was above the 60mph mark. I remember the cowling thing too.

One thing I do remember he said was his 143 jetflite was modified with a pad and a steal transom. and with the same Johnson could do 88mph
