Title: Hello - new guy from MPLS
Post by: DL-North on December 21, 2016, 08:41:18 PM

In a moment of crazyness, I bought a mid 80's CVX 16 this fall, mainly to get the motor, but now I'm having second thoughts.

So, is a CVX 16 worth putting time into? How does this hull perform?  It has a Merc 115 on it.

Welcome to the forum.

Your CVX-16 with a 115 Merc is a great combination!  We needed to put a new floor in ours and the people on this forum are a wealth of information for any rebuild project.

Hmmmm.

Well, you're on a Classic Glastron site so the responses will be a more than a bit slanted toward saving it.  But yes, they are nice riding hulls.  And that Merc 115hp will push that boat between 45-52 mph.  And if you tweak it,  a bit more perhaps.

If you post up some pictures the good folks here will give you some honest feedback on restoration issues.  How solid is your floor?  Transom?? etc. Interior???

Good bunch of folks here with a strong group in the MPLS area.  Best of luck.

Thanks for the responses,

Ya, I know, a silly question on a Glastron site.
I don't have any pics of the boat, or have made a good inspection of it.
This will have to wait til spring.

The boat does need some love and I don't yet know the condition of the motor.
I suspect that at the least I'll get the motor running on the boat and try it on the water before I decide what to do.

I just had the urge to get a I6 Merc, just cause. If the motor is any good, then this boat is as good as any to run it on.

Welcome to the forum Dan !
Post some pictures of your boat.

"In a moment of crazyness, I bought a mid 80's CVX 16 this fall"
Some of our members have poll barns full of Glastrons ... It's an addiction ... and sound like your hooked ... LOL

"So, is a CVX 16 worth putting time into?"
YES ... If you can wet sand / buff out the flake, do some minor repairs to wood parts, your CVX will look like a million bucks.

" How does this hull perform? "
The CVX hull has a pad and should do over 50 MPH / GPS with a good running 115 HP motor, mid 50's with right prop and set up.

I've owned and rebuilt several cvx-16's and I my opinion it's the best all around "play boat" ever made.. With a 115hp you can do it all.. Ski, cruise, and go fast!  They are also very stable in all kinds of water. And I've never had any worries about letting the "kids" take it out.    KEEP THEM RUNNING!!

Chad and Nes,

Those are some very nice looking boats (now that I can see the images), sure wish ours was close to those in condition.
Of course if it was the price would have been a lot higher.

I'll try a few pics,
I am curious, how many here saw it and passed?  I waited several weeks before I even went and looked at it.
