Title: Glastron SSV-151 Parts wanted
Post by: doodlez93 on May 31, 2017, 04:13:27 AM
Hey guys,   :)

i need your help beacuse in Germany its hard to find parts for my boat or my engine.
In my boat there is a fuel filter i need to change... well it looks like a filter :D But the boat is in Spain so i cant search for a number.
Can you tell me where i can find a filter like this ?

Oh and if you have any affordable parts you dont need anymore please message me because i want to restore this beauty as fast as possible.  :-[

Edit: Oh any the engine has some problems... When i drive full throttle aber a few seconds it looses a lot of power and needed nearly double of fuel... if i stop the engine and start it again it works a another few seconds till i looses power again. Any ideas ? I dont think that its just the filter. Greets

Edit 2: Of it looks more like a water seperator  ???

First, update to a newer/better fuel filter from a marine supply store. It doesn't have to be like the original.

Second, your carburetor and fuel system is probably all plugged up with debris from the fuel tank restricting fuel demand. I suggest you clean out or replace the fuel tank and go through the whole fuel system and carburetor.

Well I'm still not sure if it is a filter :D It looks more like a water seperator... but i cant find this one in the internet  ???

And to replace the fuel tanks would be expansive and not that easy i think. I should clean it like you say but how? Just with fuel ? Or with something special?

You want something like this ...
https://www.westmarine.com/buy/racor--10-micron-spin-on-series-fuel-filter-water-separator-o-b-320--484964?recordNum=1 (https://www.westmarine.com/buy/racor--10-micron-spin-on-series-fuel-filter-water-separator-o-b-320--484964?recordNum=1)

Do a "Google" search for ... "cleaning old fuel tank".
There are a few methods, depending on rust or sludge.

That filter looks like something that came off of an old tractor that was used back in the 1940s/50s. Those were a filter of sorts, but it looks like yours has seen better days. I would agree on upgrading to a newer style.

Also, I work for an implement dealer and when our shop tech clean an old fuel tank they flush it out with a power washer with heat and use a heavy detergent through the power washer. They stick the power washer gun in the fill or sender hole and just brace the gun in place and let it spray for a couple hours.

The glass bowl filters were popular  to visually check contamination and water, many were equipped with a petcock to drain off the water.  In some applications they may be OK, maybe in a vintage application, but I would recommend its replacement with a finer filter/water separator in a marine application.   If you cannot or wish not to pull the tank, then possibly Brandon's recommendation is notable.  There are many products available to clean, and then coat the tank before re-use, but you must pull the tank to do this.  Given the condition of the current filter, I'd say there is likely some rust/contamination in the tank.  If it were me, I'd add a simple in-line metal filter at the tank, then a marine filter/separator at the engine so that its weight is not stressing the tanks fitting.

The glass bowl filters were basically a sediment filter. There is a screen at the top to prevent debris from going to the engine.

I do like the 2nd unit selected, seems it would be a bit tougher since it only has a small clear bowl to check and drain water, but the other would appear to work as well.   The idea of using a separate in line filter would be if you didn't want to pull your tank or clean it out.   The 10 micron filter will plug up quickly if there is a lot of debris/rust/contamination in the tank.  A cheap inline filter, metal, would provide a coarse filter before the 10 micron unit, and is cheap enough to replace often.   I would still recommend putting the 10 micron filter near the carb as fuel line does break down over time, and even copper and steel lines have proven to release junk into the fuel system.   Last thing, mount the new filter against something sturdy and not just off the tank, bouncing around in the boat could cause the fitting on the tank to break loose.  The metal filter is in line, so the rubber lines help absorb the shock.    Hope I explained it better.   Guten tag mein freund.

Any size markings on the hose?   Next best would be to pull the hose off the current filter and measure the hose and/or fitting.

Boats in Spain...he's in the UK...so he can't do either of those things.

Hmm..some might know, but you'd probably want to find another owner of an SSV-15x model and have them check.  Bob Morit's on here and has one.
