Title: No Mo
Post by: Plugcheck on September 22, 2018, 07:08:46 PM
Our local ramp at NP Dodge was open today,  but the river levels are still way too high.  Decided to drive to Blair and have some lunch at Cottonwood and took a couple photos.  Water is cold and clean(not muddy at least).  The marina will have lots of cleanup, the water is over the separation wall. Not looking like there will ever be a river outing in 2018.

River will probably be safe for boating when it's 40 degrees outside.

Wow! That is usually a 10 to 15 foot drop where you are to the docks if my memory serves me right.

Yes, the ramps from the courtesy and fuel slips are normally steep.  The rock wall the separates the marina from the river is generally about 8' tall.  River expected to peak Monday, so maybe boat next weekend if it doesn't rain anywhere in North America.  Though I've been there before myself, I feel bad for the folks that pays thousands for slip fees, and never get to use them.

39 degree air temp with 80 degree water, prob hit 75 later in the day?  Latest check on the river, appears to be getting worse, not better.  It's a convenience for us, but for folks who have boats or homes on it, I'd guess they want something done.   The new Iowa side park has been cleaned up three times this year, and now the flooding is worse than ever.

The Corp should have done a lock and dam system on the Missouri like the Mississippi. It would be so much more friendly to river traffic.

Off the top of my head there are 6-7 major dams/lakes on the upper Missouri, and something like 15+ tributary dams that feed into the watershed.  The issue is that everyone expects the lakes to be 95% filled which deters from the flood control use they are designed to address.  If climate change is too blame, then the discharge and storage rates need to be modified?  Not an easy thing to administer to all concerned parties, but the state of Missouri won a judgement against the COE because of the flooding.
