First time campers at 2010 Meet...What do we need to bring?
« on: August 06, 2010, 01:58:56 PM »
So...this is my first year camping at the meet...and...first time tenting in a long time.

I hear that I need to bring ear plugs!

What am I missing on my list (I thought other new campers might benefit from a 'recommended by the pro's list as well)

Tent & Bed Supplies
Clothes
Ear Plugs
Chair
Towel & Toiletries
Bug Spray
Sunscreen
.
.
.
Boat (very important)
.
.
.
Meals...assuming its Fenfo (fend for yourself) with the exception of the Saturday night group meal
Cooler & Ice
Food Supplies for yourself + something to share on Saturday
Beverages of choice

Any other items that should be added to the list?

That's a pretty good list!  You might like to have a flash light or a lantern too.

Ear Plugs ?

Well, I won't need them...(lived 50 yds from the tracks for 2 years)...but the trains from Minneapolis (Amtrak & Freight) all run along the river....opposite side of the river, but we'll hear them.

Trains didn't bother me much either. You get used to them.

That is a good list though.

A First Aid kit is always a good idea.  (Yup, I was a boy scout.   ;D  )

Small battery powered AM/FM radio (To monitor weather conditions should they turn ugly, God forbid!)

10' x 10' dining canopy can be worth it's weight in gold as I recall.  They're pretty cheap if you don't already have one.

Citronella candle - in a little bucket, helps keep bugs away.

Small container of hand cleaner.  (Don't know how I always manage to get so dirty!)  I carry Fast Orange because it's biodegradable, you can rinse off in the river/lake without worrying about the fishies.

Great idea Doran, BTW!

Looks like a good list. What ever you dont have, someone else will have. Like last year, I discovered my hand pump for the air bed was no good, so I was loaned a battery operated one that worked sweet!
I brought a stove last year and did use it friday night but am going to try to get by eating stuff that doesnt need to be cooked.

I'll be bringing an assortment of tools (my traveling tool box) and I am sure others will too so you probably dont need to lug that.
The dinning canopy might be good if anyone has one. We lucked out last year and never got rained on and there was a community screen house that someone (Brian?) brought but we couldnt get 89 people in there!

Hand cleaner/sanitizer. Great idea!
Do we have anyone offering to bring firewood?

Dont forget your CGOAOM shirts!
Also, Ice is available on site, just you you know.

"(Don't know how I always manage to get so dirty!)"

You like to play in the mud...come on admit it.

Usually getting within 5 feet of a two cycle outboard gets me dirty and greasy. ;D

Good list  - I haven't been in a tent since Boy Scouts 45+ years ago.

Thing I will add to my list;

First aid kit with a nurse attached (Kelly)
Ear plugs (extras to share)
110V AC air pump  / 12V DC air pump
450 Amp 12V battery booster & jumper cables
Tool box & Tow rope
Assortment of Tums & Rolaids to share.

Any other thoughts -  ???

Jim

One thing for everyone coming in from lakes who are not used to river boating.  Make sure you have a anchor that will securely hold you and your boat should something disable your boat.  The river flows at a pretty good rate.  A good powerful flash light .. it does get VERY dark on the river after the sun goes down!
.. it is what it is ... and that is how it should be!
