Keeping up with the okies...
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:40:43 PM »
Red's thread made me decide to move ahead my CV-16 restoration plans a few months.  There was a small problem however, the knee deep snow around, on top of, and in the boat.  So after 75 minutes of using a snow blower I was able to get the boat into the shed.  I hope the rest of it goes a little smoother.

I had the same problem. I just spent a few hours the other day snow blowing a path to get my boat from my car port to my garage. This weekend when My project on my boat begins...

I'll never complain about it being cold down here in Louisiana again. No way in hell I could live like that. Snow is pretty to look at but everyday life in that has to be the pits sometimes. Worst I have to deal with is running 25 feet through the rain to my workshop. I have a double carport where the Carlson resides with a cover. If need be, I can push it to my neighbors 30 x 40 shop and park it next to his boat. He offered me the space if I want to work on it during cold weekends.

Now, how do you plan to get the snow out of the boat? Wait for the spring thaw?

Give us lots of pictures and play by play. I have learned more in the last month than any other month in my life I think.

Don't know if there is a snow blower anywhere within the next 3 counties down here, but looks like we're gonna need it.
Prediction is 11 inches by tomorrow afternooon.  The state is getting ready to shut down, we're not used to blizzards like you guys are.

Not to be ungrateful but.......I really don't like winter!!
Thanks for the recognition for what we are trying to accompliish down here in the Oklahoma State Cowboys state.
I love that old boat and Olered is helping me to make her a new girl again.

Did you see the shovel in the last picture?  That and there is a 50,000 btu heater in the shed so I'll get it sorted out next weekend.

Yeah, trailer needs some work too.  I'll probably take the boat off it in the shed so I can work on them both.  The way this winter is going I should have a good 60 days before I can get it on the water.  I'll see what I can get done by then.

Good choice of color, I hear the green ones are faster. ;D

It's cold down here in Dallas also, I guess the Packers brought it with them so they would feel at home.
Oh well, it should be back in the mid 50's for sundays game and Jerry's keeping the roof closed.

The Okies are trying to keep up you northerners.  11.5 inches is a heck of alot of snow for us.  Finally found concrete on the driveway under the snow drifts.

Ok, I took out the rubrail drilled out all the rivets and then I noticed it looks like the top and bottom of the hull are glassed together...are they supposed to be?  This is going to set me back a bit as far as figuring out how to seperate the top and bottom without damaging them.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If I'm looking at the pictures correctly, yep it looks like the deck & hull are glassed together on the inside.
My suggestion is to not separate the two. With an I/O; floor, stringers and transom can all be rebuilt and done right without going through that step.

Hey Sean,  some of the boats I have split the hull on has had a thin over-lay of glass on the inside of the seam, I don't believe it's anything to do with structural integrity, I believe it's a preventative measure to keep water from sneaking up thru the railing and into the boat.  What I have seen is about a 6 ounce mat, and I've easilly cut thru it with a sharpened steel putty knife, and I have used an old butcher knife persuaded with a small ball peen.

and Yes, alot of these boats can be re-structured with-out seperating the hull, but in some .. like Mine .. it sure made the job a lot easier for me to do it.
