Glastron Carlson CV-27 twin 260
« on: April 23, 2012, 11:43:52 AM »
I am reluctantly putting up my beautiful CV-27 for sale.  Being boat access only at my lake and the marina having gas prices over $5 per gallon really makes this boat impractical for me not to mention it being on the large side for my lake.  I'd love to keep this as a second boat but again the size and upkeep make it impractical.  I'm also going to be in the market to buy an aircraft soon ($$$$$$$) and need to start consolidating my toys....  Would consider trading for Cessna 172  :D

Here are some basics on the boat:

-330 hours total on the boat itself
-101 hours on starboard engine
-20 hours on port engine
-I recently upgraded to alpha Gen 1 lowers (one is brand new with 0 hours)
-hydraulic trim tabs (I just replaced the pump with brand new)
-original 23p cleaver props in excellent condition
-three batterys with maintainer, shore power cord, and cut off switches
-newer trailer that fits perfect with surge brakes (I just replaced the master cyl and hardware)
-cockpit cover, factory original covertible top in excellent condition, and full storage cover.
-halon fire supressant system

The boat is completely solid and was well taken care of.  I'm sure it is the only blue flake CV-27 in existance.  I believe it was completely redone at some point although very tastefully.  The boat looks great, not perfect, but very presentable.  Both engines run excellent.  I dumped a ton of money into this and I haven't even had it in the water yet.  The boat can be seen at my house in Johnson City NY up until about May 1.  Then the boat will be in the water at Raquette Lake NY and can be test driven.

Asking $12,000 for the complete package.  Link to photo album:  http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj306/gregpro50/Glastron%20Carlson%20CV-27/

If I had a spare $9K (and a vehicle to pull it), I'd be happy to take it from you.  Looks beautiful.

Gregg - I am still shaking my head that for 9K someone hasn't grabbed that beautiful CV27. That's a lot of boat for the money IMHO.

Still have this.  You will never come across another one of these on the water.

if you think $5.00 a galon is impractical at a marine dock, just wait till you get to an avfuel pump ?&%@^$+
Thats the reason I sold my areocommander 20 years ago, it cost &60+ an hour when it was trimmed out.

Not trying to be a know it all, but think about this, a 172 Cessna is going to be using about 5 gallons an hour @about 85/90mph when you can find an older model twin, commanche, commander, aztec, and such, that has already had all the ad's up to date for less money than a later model Cessna 172 and will affordably travel at twice the speed, and carry two more people .. just my 2 cents

Red

I would have to agree with you on the Cessna, many years ago I made my living as a pilot, spent 2 years at night hauling checks in the back of a Cessna 172.  Not the fastest plane but a good old reliable stable plane.  Loved flying the twins, Seneca, Navaho, King Air and Cheyenne as well.  Your going to laugh, but my favorite plane is a good old Bonanza, easiest plane to fly, honestly I could teach a student to land a Bonanza in five minutes compared to a Cessna 150.

I'm always amazed how many pilots have the bug for Carlson's...

The "v" tail Bonanza was a fast plane, but kinda "fishy"  :)  they were a solid plane, and fun to fly because they were fast.  My first solo was in a J-3 with heal brakes .. I seen you grin  :)
I loved my Commander, GO-480's with three blade Hartsel's, sounded like a B-25 :) with the augmenter tubes right by the cabin windows, but DANG ! the better it sounded the more it cost to fly it, it would true out @ 3000 rpm, 30 inches manifold pressure, almost 200mph.  The best part of almost every trip to a private strip was making a 240mph low pass and pulling that baby up like a homesick angle ... takes me back  :-[

I got lots of hours in a 172, a few in a 150, 152 areobat, about 10 in a citabria, areobatic's, that one had the 115 with inverted fuel and oil, it was fun, but kinda weak, I think my favorite was the N3N with the 1340 Prat,  .. PowerHouse.  we lost it on a private airstrip w/240 gallons 2-45-T early one morning, just enough to finish up a job and get paid, finished the job with my J-3 .. just took a little longer,  that baby would go strait up, 125 Lyc and about 250ft take-off with just me in it, no chemical ... OK  back to boating

Great stories Red...always great to hear flying stories...When the kids are out of college, then I'm going to get back to flying for myself, even a Cessna 150 would be a great little puddle jumper...

Love the J3 solo, we have a local pilot who lands one on the top of a SUV, then he'll jump in his Hiperbipe, then finish the airshow in his P51, now that's fun.

My first solo wasn't all that exciting 3 touch and go and a full stop in a Piper Tomahawk on Halloween 1986, scared the hell out of me when he jumped out and signed my log book...I few years later I was probable more scared when I signed off my students...
