Let's just blame it on old age, still might sell my F150, I need to find a tow vehicle that gets better than 12-14 mpg...any suggestions...

I'm also glad you decided not to sell it Joe, you'd have a hard time finding one that nice to replace it!  My youngest granddaughter (14yo) wants my '05 F-150 STX (4.6L STX - 17mpg) as her first vehicle in a couple years.  I'm considering the restoration of a 60's or 70's station wagon as my next tow vehicle.  Man, if I could find a Vista Cruiser in decent shape...........LOL.  (Not that the gas mileage would be that much better?  Gotta have a full frame under it for me to even consider though.

I had the same issue and it actually kept me from boating more...at least part of the reason. If it takes 50 bucks in gas to get to and from the lake/river, it sucks so I started looking for a better alternative them my 83 4x4. When I was considering the Mitsubishi Montero I bought, I was concerned about having a tow vehicle with a 3.5 liter V6 but have since pulled 2 of my boats with it and it was very adequate! Mileage isnt the best. Rated at 19 highway but better then the pickup.

Believe it, a larger 4 cylinder having 160 or more horse power would tow a cvx 16.   Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4 would work great.  The new CRV AWD (188 hp) is rated at 30 mpg on the highway, plus has a economy button on the dash that will give you 35-38 mpg highway the other 99.9% of the time when you are not towing.

Your boat and trailer weigh 2K lbs at most. you could tow it with ust about anything. But you all know my vote is for a Panther body Ford!

I was wondering the same thing! Saw it a couple of weeks back, but I just could not ask.

BTW, Amber and I get bored rather quickly cruising the lakes our selves, it made us wonder over this last winter if we really wanted to keep the Phoenix Rising. But when Dan set out with the idea of having a meet kind of close to home at Rathbun Lake it kind of lit a fire to boat more. We really started enjoying it when we got to cruise with others at Rathbun Lake for the first time.

Just so you know, I am willing to pull the Phoenix 2 hrs one direction if you would like company next year. I would offer this year but the engine will be coming out next weekend to repair the front engine mount.

Great looking vehicles. You've got good taste in boats and cars. I bet that Marauder could pull the boat right off the trailer.

I've towed for a long time with an F-150(4.6 V-8) that gets an honest 20mpg hwy that declines to 18 pulling my boat.  Recently been towing with a trialblazer (4.2 V-6) also 20mpg hwy, however when towing it goes down to around 16mpg.  At any rate the vortec V-6 has plenty of power but actually uses more gas while towing.  Guessing the truck doesn't really have to "work" to tow the boat, makes sense I guess.

My first boat was a 18 ft 1990 Nissan with a 90hp outboard on it I used to pull that thing everywhere with my 1984 Chevy Celebrity Convertible. It had a 2.8 V6 and pulled it fine (unless really windy). Not sure on mileage though. But gas was only .99 cent a gallon so I didn't really care either.
I think this has become an addiction.

Thanks for all the kind words in keeping the boat, hopefully next year we will get more use out of it.  Brandon, we will have to get together next year, that sounds like a great plan, if we don't get some rain we won't be boating much next year!!

Thanks for all the towing information, still going to sell F150 gas prices are just getting out of hand and I drive alot for my work, we also have a Chrysler Pacifica that pulls the Carlson pretty well, I'll use that in the interim, maybe it's time buy a midlife Chrysler convertible!!!

Amen to the rain Joe! Right now I am praying for a lot of snow during the winter. By the last few fog days we have ha we should see moisture in late October and early November. Let's hope it happens!
