" I'd say red. What year is that timmi? "

Unsure ... It was at the Red Wing meet.
Coral Timmi from 1984 brochure ...

I think the '84 brochure shot of the Intimidator is a little flat and the actual color is a little brighter. Coral is often more pink. The Carlson coral looks like a cross between apricot and red to me. I think 007s boat looks sharp. His color doesn't look brown on my monitors.

I took a lot of pictures of that Timmi, because it was the first red (Coral) one I had ever seen, and the one I posted was the clearest shot of the bunch.
Looked at my lap top from every angle and his CVX still looks brown ... LOL

Sorry for messing up your thread Rob ...

You didn't mess it up. I like reading all point of views. Here is my last run with a new viper 19p. The previous owner had NGK spark plugs. I didn't change them out yet but my book calls out for Champion UL77V. I read that Champion QL16V is an alternative for better idle and still has great WOT characteristics. Since my engine at trolling speed is a little rough I would like to know what your guys opinion is on trying out the QL16V plug. The plugs retail for 10 to $12 each but found them for $6.40 each on (low cost boating store DOT com).

well, Im not sure, because that tach I installed started to go crazy. But I have to say..... by listening to the engine with the 17p aluminum, and the 21p turbo prop I tested the 19p viper sounds like I am in the pocket. I will have to investigate the tach in the spring since it's all winterized now. The previous owner said 6000 rpms with the 17 he had on there. I have no idea why he would run that prop??? The hole shot is crazy fast, and the speed up to 40-45mph is almost instant. makes me curious what the viper 20p would be like. 53mph full tank and two adults.

What year is your 140 HP Johnson? Johnson changed from rating horsepower in 1985 from powerhead to propshaft.

I tried the equalivent to a Viper (SST II) on my CVX-16 with a 1985 115 HP prop rated Johnson. A Raker is 1 1/2 MPH faster. Your RPM 's must be quite high because with a Raker 20" my RPM's are about 5,700 and with a Raker 22" about 5,500.

I have tried the surface gap (QL78V) and electrode (QL77J4) gapped at .030 and am staying with electrode for now.

Here is my thread on the national site for the fastest prop for a CVX-16 with a 115 HP OMC:

I am pretty sure it is an 84. It's a bummer I didn't really figure out my tach issue yet. But for sure I was running more RPM's with that 17 he had on there. So at least I feel better about that. The model # is J14 OTL CRD . The Ql16v is a surface gap like OEM UL77v. Im to curious, ill have to by a set. I wish we were in the month of May.

If the previous owner was serious about waterskiing there would be a good case for the 17" prop. Better hole shot and higher RPM at 36 mph.
OMC props for that motor when it was new would have included 13x19, 12 3/4 x 21 and 12 3/4 x 23 in alum and SST. A 13x19 would be a good ski prop and on that hull you could turn the 12 3/4 x 21, and maybe get higher speed with the 12 3/4 x 23 but suffer from a poor hole shot. They haven't made the 12 3/4" diameter for a long time now and the 100 cube 140s stuggle a bit with larger diameter props so you might have to give up a little pitch.

There are often some deals on older SST props out there. I found a NOS 13 x 19 SST for a hundred bucks in 2012 still in the box on Ebay.

I'm pretty sure the 1984 140 is still rated at the prop shaft, I believe they changed it back in 1977-78.  That's the exact engine I had on my 1984 CVX 16 with a 19" Stainless it would go 55-56 all day long.  I hate to say it but it was always cold blooded and was rough at trolling speeds but they sure get up and go.

Do you still have the VRO hooked up, lot of views on that subject, I'm currently running it in my 1999 Johnson 115, that engine has been the best running engine I've ever owned, but I regret not putting a 140 back on it.

The 140 HP cross flow became the 115 HP cross flow about 1985 when Johnson came out with the 140 HP looper in 1985. My sources say Johnson changed horsepower ratings in the mid 1980's over a period of about three years.

My 1985 Johnson owners manual gives recommendations for sustained low speed spark plugs and sustained hight speed spark plugs. Plugs foul more at low speeds and the electrode plugs are recommended. For high speeds, the surface gap are suggested.

The VRO was taken out about 5 years ago from previous owner. Ill go with the surface gap plugs. High speed is what I aim for 8)

Ya, think I'd call it copper 'fore brown too Gregg.

Cool hull. C500 with a lil dose of roids. Foot longer, 2" deeper, inch narrower. Load cap 'bout the same but rated to 140 vs 125hp.

Speaking of prop rated HP. It didn't happen early as '77. But by '83 & definitely '84, all OMC were prop rated.

If'n yer motor's a VRO (working or not) it's a safe bet it's prop rated hp.
