Mississippi in St Paul and Mpls
« on: July 17, 2014, 02:11:17 PM »
yesterday we launched at Boom Island in NE Mlps, went through the locks to downtown st paul.
then up the Minnesota to the Ft Snelling Launch.
water is still a little high, but really moving fast, lots of turbulence.
met Barges/Tugs 4 times right in or out of locks.
the outlet side of the lower st Anthony lock was turbulent to the point of being scary, barley was able to gram the signal rope ;-/. was going to try to beach at hidden falls park to use bathroom but current was crazy there too (don't think i will ever try that launch). Outside of that it was a great trip, looked at the Navionics track and we hit 49.1 fully loaded with both of us on board, and was not even trying.
Laurie will post pix.

That's a fun area. I used the hidden falls ramp once before. Even when the river is low and "slow" the current is strong and does all kinds of crazy things when you are trying to launch.

HEY! Quit spending so much time on the water and get back to working on your other boats!

I ain't never been through a lock. Looks skeery. Is that people standing on top? What, are they there to confirm your death? Yikes!

Will you guys hold me when we go through ...?

Looking good Joe and Laurie. Beautiful day. Makes all the work worthwhile.

I would not be surprised to read that Joe and Laurie launched at Boom Island and are traveling to New Orleans in their GT150, packed to the gills and without a care in the world.
