Hey Everyone ...
« on: March 08, 2017, 03:57:43 PM »

My name is Scott and I've been a long time Glastron fan...my first boat right out of college was an orange '72 GT-160.  I currently own an '84 CVX-16 and just recently picked up Frisco's '86 CVX-18 from Indiana.  I know there has been a large following on that boat and I'm just as excited as many are, to finally see it in the water.  I haven't been able to work on it yet, but I may have some questions to post once I do.  Looking forward to meeting-up on the river.

If you need a wing man for a test run on Minnetonka this spring, there's a good chance I could meet you with my CVX-18.

Welcome! Always good to have more people around the twin cities. I'm on the west side if you ever want to river cruise near 494.

Finally had some time to dig into the CVX and found the front seats need to be re-done. The upholstery has been redone and looks great, but the seat bottoms look original and need replacement. Can anyone direct me to a good source of info I could reference in a rebuild?  I've got half the gel coat back to a nice shine and have decided on the original red glue-in carpet.

My seat bottoms were rotted and cracked, so I pulled all the staples out and removed covers then made new wood.
Foam was pretty bad also so replaced that to, with high density foam, then stapled old vinyl seat covers back on.
Last summer I had new vinyl made, removed covers again and replaced with new vinyl covers.
I'm pretty good at removing staples now ... Lots of practice ...

Thanks for the seat rebuilding links. I will need to do something similar but I was thinking of using a layer or two of glass and resin on the new frames to make them waterproof. Thoughts?

I also need to fabricate a support for the rear seat back and pads on either side of the engine hatch. Is the factory standard a box around the engine?  Are the box panels removable to make engine servicing easier?  Any pictures or ideas for a frame or box would be greatly appreciated.

I also see a ski pylon that inserts through the engine hatch but the frame or engine mount is missing. Anyone have a picture of how that system works?

This weather is got me working to get this done!

Appreciate everyone's help
Scott

I looked thru Frisco's early rebuild videos and saw the rear foam boxes that supported the sun pads and engine hatch. I also noticed a tube and cross frame attached to the back of the rear seat, which looks to be the tube where the ski pylon was inserted.

Once I figure out how to post pictures, I'll be able to give everyone a better view of the progress.

Thanks again
Scott

Should I have started a different thread for this discussion?

I thinned my resin was styrene.
Then coated all the seat part with it.
I did fiberglass the corners of my seat boxes  for strength .
My seats are a different design then yours though .
You could also make them out of composite  and never have to worry about Rot.
