Good fitting cover for CVX-18?
« on: July 27, 2017, 11:24:56 PM »
Just wondering if any CVX-18 owners have found a good quality cover anywhere?  I managed to rip mine pretty good along the seam and I think it's toast.

If it's a nice fitting cover I would say up to $400 or so.  I don't think I want to purchase a custom fit one (but might consider it if it's really worth it)

I went through a few generic covers and the ones I tried were junk, and not that cheap.

I broke down and got one from https://www.boatcoversdirect.com/  and am very happy with it.  It is cut and tailored to fit, has extra padding sewn in at all the cleats, windshield, and tow ring.  Heavy draw cord to pull it tight. Not cheap but feel I got some value for the money.

My dad had a custom two color three stripe trailering cover made for his intimidator for around $500.

I had basically the same one made for my intimidator in different colors for $400 two years earlier than when my dad's was built.

For my CVZ's & now the Metric, I've ordered covers from iboats.com.   There are some 'semi-custom' fit ones that have worked really well for me.

Would you say that these covers are water-tight?  The old cover would let lots of water through, then you'd have to spend another day with the cover off in the sun to dry the wood

Yes...with 2 caveats...its sharkskin, so its good material.

My 2 caveats are...if you allow a low spot so water can pool, it will slowly drip into the boat.  The 2nd is that you do have to make sure rain can't go 'up' into the cover vents.

I've towed mine from IA to N. MN through some heavy rains...it has been mostly successful.  100%?  No, but this cover is trailerable.  Sounds like you want a storage cover.

I bought a Carver cover for my CVZ-18, trailer able, and mostly waterproof.   Keeps stuff dry when trailering, but if its sitting outside, it forms pools in the cover.  I probably need to fashion a couple "bows".   Cost was around $300.00.

Are these mooring or travel covers? I'm guessing travel based on the material.

I called the company that built the covers for my dad and myself to get an idea of what yours would cost. If you were not in a rush to get it done for the same material we have, it has a felt like soft material on the inside, one color, it would be about $900. If you went with something without that felt like inside you would save about $100. Oh, and they are booked out into October. Man am I glad I had mine made when I did. I guess when you are good at what you do you tend to stay busy and then you can give out I don't care if I get the job quotes.

If Allan is coming to the meet, maybe he'd be willing to talk about some quotes?

Doug does, and Allan does as well, and is local in the TC's.

No offence Doug, local is best.

I don't think he'll be offended...he's told me a couple times that he likes the boats at his shop to fit them properly.

Don't let the word get out, but I heard Aqua-Stitch (Allan) is planning a sale and huge discount for CGOAMN members coming up this late fall and winter.  Stay tuned.
