Hello from Ontario!
« on: August 10, 2017, 03:36:13 PM »
Hi everybody! My name is Andrew and I'm 24 and have grown up with boats and always love being on the water. My father has a 17ft Sunbird bow rider. Him and I did a full rebuild on an old 1960's 14ft Chrysler boat 7 years ago we picked up for 10 bucks! So I have been working and tinkering on boats all my life.

Bear with me while I share my story…

For the past 18 years there has been this boat sitting in a driving shed at the trailer park we stay at in Parry Sound, only used for a few weeks each summer, it had always caught my attention whenever it was out. In the last 10 years this boat hadn’t budged from the shed, and I always thought it was a shame no one was using it. A few months ago, the owners came and got it out on the water again. The previous owners live in Norway and used to vacation in Canada in the summer. They had not been able to make it back for the past 10 years until now. I had heard they wanted to sell, so my wife and I drove up late that night to meet them the next morning (3hr drive). We bought it that day, but had to leave it there until this past weekend. We hauled home ‘our’ first boat, one I’ve dreamed of owning for years, a 1989 Glastron Carlson 23CSS. We are the 3rd owners.

It has been very well maintained over the years, and luckily been stored under a roof and covers. The chipmunks and mice had made a bit of a mess inside but we got it all cleaned up.

It has a working 350 Magnum with an Alpha One out drive and a 23P SS prop. It also has through side hull exhaust with a switch from hull to out drive. The thing sounds amazing.

Anyways that’s the good. The bad, is that the hull is not in good shape, the previous owners hit a rock, which are common in Georgian Bay/ Parry Sound, and the shop did a terrible job of fixing it, the patch fell off this year when they put it in the water. So that is #1 on the priority list.

There are lots of other things that need attention and a bit of love and elbow grease, but it will be a good project, that I will be posting about as we go!

Her name is ‘Red October’ (from the original owner), named after the movie, a stealthy, fast mysterious ship. Even though it is far from stealthy with that through hull exhaust I still think the name is fitting.

Can’t wait to share and learn more from the forum! From what I have been reading the last few months it is a great community!

Welcome! Plenty of knowledge on this site for the CV23/CVX23/23CSS. Looks like it has a camper top too? Mine has that as well and I love it! Looking forward to watching your progress with the boat.

Yes it has a camper enclosure as well, the first owner also installed a toilette in it! Kind of a cool feature.

Not sure exactly what has all happened to the bottom over the years, and probably won't have a good idea until I start pealing off the flaking patch. But I plan on pulling the floor and fixing/reinforcing from the inside.
Also gives me a chance to clean out the rest of the chipmunk junk under there.

Hi Andrew. Welcome. When we were chatting about your boat before, I didn't realize you had just gotten the 23 so recently.  Nice score with the camper top etc. Interesting story too!
