Evinrude tilt latch
« on: August 11, 2017, 01:42:38 PM »
I know we've got some Evinrude experts on this forum.  My '73 Ev 115 with manual engine tilt, seems weird.   The tilt latch is too strong!   My engine manual says the lower unit pull at the prop shaft to overcome the lock should be 640 to 710 lbs.!   There's a relatively small spring that reduces this tension when the tilt lock lever is moved to the "Tilt" position, but I still can't tilt the engine.   Maybe this spring reduces the tension to "only" 500 lbs.?  I need to remove the rod that determines the engine angle in order to lift the engine.   What am I doing wrong?

My '75 Mercury automatically release the tilt lock when I shift onto "forward".   That's a much better design!
