Johnson 115 ignition coils needed
« on: August 14, 2017, 10:16:20 PM »
Hi all, my motor dropped an ignition coil last week and I've been having a difficult time finding a new one. Most parts are obsolete and for some reason, most sites I go to don't even have my motor listed as even existing. The plate says the model is 115ETL78C.  Anyone have any guidance on anything I might be missing?

I did buy a coil and it doesn't look right compared to my others, probably doesn't help that the coils I have could be original. The coil I purchased is a Sierra 18-5176. I don't want to break into the new one I have and find out it's the wrong one and not be able to return it.

The sierra coil should work just fine even if it doesn't look like the original coil. Over the years designs change but function is the same. But to be sure the coil is the problem you can swap it out and if it still doesn't work then the problem could be in the power pack.

Here's my update!

Put the new coil on and it worked fine for about 5 minutes then it stopped working. I'm going to Lake Allie tomorrow where my brother-in-law lives to do a little troubleshooting on the water and see what might be going on.

Thanks for your input guys. I always appreciate the help.
