Help identify! - is this even a Glastron?
« on: August 29, 2017, 08:44:49 PM »
Hi everyone!

I picked up this boat for 10 bucks a number of years ago for a project. My father and I rebuilt it right from the shell. The hull did not have any identification numbers, markings, decals or anything to go off of. We originally thought it was a 1960's Chrysler.
I recently picked up a 23CSS and have been following Glastron pages and saw a picture of a 1967 Glastron V-142 and thought it looked VERY similar to this 'unknown' boat of mine.

Would anyone have any insight on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Honestly I'm more a Carlson fan, but I'm just not seeing Glastron lines in your craft.  Bad thing is that literally hundreds of fiberglas boat manufacturers existed in the time frame that was built, so I can't help further with identification.  Looks like a fine craft and a decent job of restoring it as well.  I'd say finish it and enjoy it. Hopefully the dnr/dmv won't hassle you too much when registration time comes.

Oh it's been finished and registered for years now, it's a great little boat, lots of fun!
You are very right, I have done a lot of googling and haven't been able to find an exact match.

Looks like, possibly a '68 Skiflite V-142?  Has the typical Glastron 'dimple's' in the stern corners, middle 'fabric' down the hull bow...might not be 100% right on the model, but could be a Glastron?

There was a few company's in Canada that were licensed to build Glastron's.
Gt150's were made by at least two company's, and there seems to be a few CVX16/CVX17 that look a little off the Carlson model design.
I don't think any other Mfg. used that style stern design, unless "splashed" from a Glastron hull.

Did you look around dash, under the deck or under splash well area for a small tag that would be glassed over with a serial number ?
Some times very hard to see ...

I would also say it a V-142 ... original color would help narrowing down the year.
Cool boat !
What do you have for a motor ?

Hello,
Enjoyed seeing your boat.  In agreement with others above that it seems to be a V-142 or "splash" of one.  The tooling would be from the 1966 to 1971 year models.  As also commented before, if the deck gelcoat color was found to be different than the red it was when found, that it might allow the year model to be better determined if truly Glastron produced.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the input! It really looks identical to that '68 V-142, however the part of the splash well right behind the seat on mine goes straight across, instead of dipping down in front of the motor.

I checked under the splash well for a serial number with no luck, the dash has been reinforced so if there was something there before it is now covered.

It was yellow under the maroon burgundy. But looking at some of the Glastron spec sheets I don't see a yellow..

It is an '87 Suzuki 55 hp on it, pulls skiers, does 37 mph on the GPS and is up on plane in a matter of seconds. Great little boat.

I also attached a pic of the bottom of the hull, not sure if it would help?
