Let's talk about...Gauges...
« on: August 31, 2017, 03:52:24 PM »
Evening all, hope you've all recovered from your trip!

So after the struggle I'm having finding various parts I have a couple of faulty gauges and being as though you can't get them anymore I was going to replace the set with matching ones...

As our boats are from the 80s what nicer than a digidash in white led with chrome bezels... before I order though does anyone know of a tach signal from a 2 stroke tower of power (brown band) will differ to any other signal?

Here is the tach in question want to make sure it will work as they aren't cheap ...

The tach that shows up is made for a 4cycle engine and is probably intended for automotive use.

A brown-band Merc is going to be like any other outboard with a 12-pole alternator charging system. A universal tach with that setting will work fine. Would also be the same for any 4-stroke outboard. Only I/O's will use settings for the number of cylinders.

The tach you're looking at will most likely not work. Outboard tachs get their signal from the alternator charging system, not the ignition system like an I/O where cylinder count matters. A marine tach usually has setting for both alternator style and cylinders. I don't know what kind of system a 2 cycle ski machine would use, not familiar with them.
