Coosa board
« on: September 08, 2017, 10:25:08 AM »
Has anyone here used Coosa board. I'm thinking I might use it for my small transom on the CVZ? stringers will still be wood but I feel the leg always eventually gets water leaks. Please correct me if I am on the wrong path.

You certainly could use it, but I found no cost or structural reasoning to do that to my CVZ.   Just two layer 3/4" ply and insuring everything is sealed up.   My boat rarely sits in water long, and almost never is left outside.   The MN meet represents the most time my boat sits in the water/outside the entire year(about 4 days), so water issues on floor, transom, or stringers is never likely to be an issue.   Just my $0.02

I poured mine with Seacast...I'd never use wood again if I was up for a full rebuild.  A composite material will never have rot issues no matter what happens to it...so why not?

There are several options out there...

Coosa is fairly expensive if I remember. Have you looked into other composites there are a lot out there.  I used some Plascore on a couple parts of my last rebuild. It is really light weight and you can cut it with a razor knife. Once it is laminated with glass and resin it is hard as a rock.  If I do another boat that is what I would be using.  I plan on making a new swim platform for our 43ft boat this winter out of it.

I think this has become an addiction.

Thank you for the input all. My boat will always be shedded and won't be in water more than a day at a time for the most part. I will check on some other composites. Being in Canada it might be harder to get them than down south. I started my tear down will post pics in my introduction thread or should I start a restore thread?
