WTB: 1968-69 GT 160 Bowrider
« on: September 13, 2017, 07:54:54 PM »
I'm in the market for a 1968-69 GT 160 Bowrider. Restored correctly and in excellent, near perfect condition. I know I'm asking a lot.

Will also consider other cool models 18ft and under, but must be nice and ready to go. Let me know what you got!

Good time of year to be in the market to buy !

"Will also consider other cool models 18ft and under"
That's a pretty broad statement ... Maybe something like a CVZ18 or CVZ19 ?

Sorry for the delayed response. Work and kids keep getting in the way of my boat search! Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely keep checking CGOTD. I really like the '60s styling. Jetflites are probably my favorite but not enough seating room. Prefer to stick to open bow, not a fan of tri hulls. Checked out the GX post but styling can't compare and front bow doesn't have as much room. I'm keeping an open mind but really feel the GT160 bowrider is the one. I'll be patient and hopefully a nice one will pop up between now and spring. If you come across one let me know. Thanks again!

OK ...
On Searchtempest, I search ...
Glastron
Glasstron
Glastron Carlson

Even then I miss some, that will show up a day or two latter on a search.
Because of the volume of Glastron's for sale at any given time. I just post rare and/ or cool one's and GT's.
If a GT show's up it will get posted !

Most of our members have Glastron Carlson's ... Must be the "Sparkly Paint" ... So most posts are G/C's

Good to know. To make matters worse I found this one that looked promising but the wife doesn't like the red. She's killing me. I think the red looks great but apparently the search is now even narrower for a GREEN (or other color if it's been color changed) 1968-69 GT-160. Wish me luck.

Yeah...the green ones are less common than the red ones...I'm partial to the red one's too.

Looks like Travis and Crystal's GT in the picture, but I don't remember them attending a MN meet.  I like the red myself, but now you have really limited your search.  1.  Restored or very good condition.  2. Green.  3. 69-70 GT-160.         I wish you the best of luck, but that's a narrow search window.  For practicality, have you considered a new Glastron?

Yep, they were at the meet before you I believe.

Okay. Answer me this. I showed the wife the boat below. Look at image 7. She loved the color but still wants the GT160 style. I could paint the boat myself with a good high quality 2-part paint the color she wants for not too much. $500 tops. The interior I would need to have done professionally. How much do you think I'd be looking at for that? That way color doesn't matter just find a solid example and make it custom.

Then couldn't you just buy the red GT160 and paint it green?

Yes exactly! Or that aqua color she now likes or whatever we want. I'll call some upholsterers to get an idea but if anybody has done full upholstery on a boat this size I'm interested in what it cost you.

Ok. I have to say this. It's only my opinion and it'll be your boat and you can do what you want with it but if your looking at repainting/gelling and re-upholstery you should just by a project boat at that point. Please don't take a nice original boat and do this kind of work to it. Things are only original once and you can't go back. The red boat you posted looks nice. Too nice to repaint IMO. Although the interior looks to be redone at some point. My advice. Buy the red GT160. Drive as is till you find the perfect boat. Who knows, maybe the color will grown on your wife. Plus it gives you time to really know if you like the boat or not.

I agree with Jason ....

Boat you posted isn't a CVX17 ... it's a CVX16.
The color is 1980, but interior should be button style seats, must have been redone.

Guy that did my seats, said he would have charged me $1500.
Vinyl alone was $250.
Your would be $2000 or more ...

Mike ... Picture of GT's was from 2013 Meet, the one was almost perfectly restored !

Jason, I agree with you. If we end up with a red one, I would not modify at least until we have a season under our belts and know we want to keep the boat long term. Secretly hoping all the while the red grows on her.

Please let me know if this is against the rules, but I am trying to turn over every rock. I found a couple more posted on other forums. I registered for both forums but am having trouble posting on both.

This one from Classic Glastron is owned by CalGlasLVR. I would like to private message him, but I registered last Thursday and my account still has not been activated. I sent the administrators a message over the weekend. Still no response. Is the site still active? Anyone with an active account able to help me out and contact this guy?

Same for iBoats. I registered and have an account, but I am unable to post anything or PM anyone. I sent message to administrators but no response. There is a super nice one restored by Corjen1 on there. I'd like to see if he has any interest in selling but can't. Anyone with an account able to help me out would be much appreciated.

Not sure who you would contact at iBoat ?
