Aluminum rim vs a piece of steal.
« on: October 25, 2017, 10:48:15 AM »
This is what happens to an aluminum rim when it meets a piece of iron bouncing down the road. This happened to Amber and I on Sunday the 22nd of October on our way home from Omaha in Columbus, Ne.

yep. Missed the air pressure sensor by about an inch. The only place I found a used wheel was on ebay from a salvage yard in Rosemount, MN.

Dropped pressure fairly quickly, good to hear you kept control.  Could have ended worse than the loss of a tire and wheel.

Actually I was driving, it scared the heck out of all three of us, and thankfully we were only going 35mph. Also, it was the Left rear.

I saw it coming but had no where to go.

If at a higher rate of speed, it would have been worse. I heard the tow hook pop the tire. It went straight through the tread and punched right through the rim. No damage to the car it self other than a little feathering of the fender well liner.
