I was a diehard Mercury man, but a 1985 115 HP (rated at the prop shaft) Johnson that was attached to the boat purchased made a believer out of me. Could not be happier with the motor.

That motor would look and work perfect on your stern !
All you'd need is this decal set !

Great ideas guys. I bought that motor to go faster in the V-153, then bought the CVX-16 shortly after that with the intention of trying this "second class" Johnson motor then switching to the Mercury to prove that Mercury's were superior. But what can I say. The Johnson has proved worthy of staying on the transom.

The present decal colors (red, silver and gray) on the 1988 Mercury are close enough to the colors on the 1985 CVX-16 (red, white and blue) that a decal switch is not necessary. I did not like the brown decal colors on the Merc.

On this picture I put the 1974 Mercury cowl on the 1988 Merc.

Dave doesn't mess around. His attention to detail is second to none! I'm surprised that engine is in the garage and not in the living room.

Years ago I sold my dad's 3.6 Scott Atwater to someone who was going to mount it on the wall of his house - yes he was single.

Thanks Gregg! Pretty fun to look back and see, my Grandpa sure did have an eye for all things cool.
Here’s a couple more that I have!
First is my grandpa diving the Wisconsin river in Stevens point WI about summer 1971
Bottom picture is my dad and friends parked up on the sand bar on WI river summer 1973

Wish we still had this boat around, the transom rotted and my uncle traded it in on his 1987 Glastron Z-17.  Wish he woulda kept it, or at least the motor! Oh well

On this picture I put the 1974 Mercury cowl on the 1988 Merc.

Whoa Dave! I absolutely love that! 85-88 Merc with a cowl swap. I didn’t realize they crossed over like that. Are you interested in selling? If so, I’d love to learn more about the 88.

Dealer can install a motor that 15% greater then rated.

I don't think your tach will work with other motors

Thank you Gregg! Very good to know.

Thanks for your interest in the 1988 Mercury. It is my insurance policy for a backup motor in case there is major damage to the Johnson.

Dyounge,

Not sure if you are in Facebook but there is a guy selling a 120 HP Johnson 4cyl that he has on a glastron 16CSS for 500 bucks. He says it comes with controls and is a good runner he just wants to repower it and selling it cheaper so someone else can enjoy it. This might be a really good option for you! Not sure how to put you two in contact though if you don’t have Facebook! Let me know if you want to speak with him and I could get his info and pass it onto you. He is in Montrose Minnesota just west of twin cities.
Hope this helps!
