1977 Glastron Carlson CV23
« on: September 11, 2018, 05:46:02 PM »
Howdy all! Over the weekend I went to look at a CV23. He said he was only the second owner of this local boat. From the pictures it looked too good to be true. Besides the typical sun fading on the bow the interior appeared to look like new. The white stuff you see on the bow is the left over wax he never wiped off, it came off at home and I think with a good polish I can bring back most of the shine back on the bow! When I saw it in person I couldn’t believe my eyes… Not a tear in sight nor any sun fading. In fact the material appears soft as if it had just been made! He even had the matching original privacy snap in screen for the cuddy as well as the original snap on cover.

We took it out for a test run on the river and it performed flawlessly. I was surprised how quickly it flattened out, as well as how fast it was able to go. We hit 55mph at top speed and there was a little left I’m sure. Every gauge and light worked. It’s almost as if we were taking it out for the first time ever! I shook his hand and made the deal before we even got to the dock! Not sure what these are worth, because there was nothing for sale close to gauge the price, but I feel like I might have paid a little too much. But I’m okay with that!

Kind of hard to know if you paid too much when we don't know how much you gave for it, however, if it truly is in the shape you described, I'd put its value $8-10k.  There is a lot of adjustment based on condition though, drive, engine, stringers, transom, etc.    Bottom line is this, if you/family are happy with it, that is all that really matters.  Hope you can make some great family memories.

First off.....  Welcome to the forum!

Ditto on what Mike says. To find these boats that don't need interior or exterior work is a plus. Just get in and have fun. Nice score by the way.

23 Glastron Carlson Jet Daycruiser - $5950 (Milwaukie)

Glastron Carlson 23. A handful of these special boats were built in 1977 to recognize the retirement of the founder of Glastron. Powered by a 460 Ford with Berkeley drive. This boat was one owner until I got it two seasons ago. It is fast and smooth. The interior is very good. The trailer is an EZ Loader tandem. I had it in the water today, it is ready for use. Call, Larry

That boat is beautiful! Hard to find them as original as that one! Especially a CV23 that is typically stored outside. Hope I get to see it in person some day!

Sort of a misconception that its just for owners in MN.  We have members from around the world here.  The National club has chapters and we're just the MN chapter.  Unfortunately, the other chapters aren't very active...so please stay!  We've had boats at our meet from (I think) 23 states?

Congrats on picking up a nice looking 23. If you think that you paid too much, remember that a new 16' Alumacraft fishing boat with a 40hp outboard would cost you 19K. A boat with the style of a CV-23 ready to run is worth a lot more than whatever it likely cost.

At $6k it's a good score.  Folks from all over on this forum, I'm from Nebraska.  In Portland you say, score some Fred from hair of the dog brewing company and I'd be forever in debt.  Nice town, did a lot of work on steel bridge for uprr.

Looking forward to being apart of an active group! I owned a 1975 Kona a few years ago (reason for my screen name) and had to sell it to put my wife through college. But now I'm back! I have always had my eye on a CV23 and the stars aligned when it was time for a new boat!

Question for the knowledgeable. I have what I was told was the original horn. Its currently off because he was planning on taking everything off the bow to detail it. You can see where it was in the below picture next to the bow light as the gel coat is in way better condition. So it must have been there a while. Is this truly a factory position for a horn? Every cv23 I have seen in photos and brochures doesn’t appear to have one there. I’ll get a picture of the horn when I can. Its white and plastic and honestly kind of ugly.

Thanks! I'm actually from Washington State, I drove down South to get it. He was the second owner, the first also being from Portland and owned the boat up until 2 years ago.

Some of the Glastron models are shown in 1977 brochures with box horn.
It was the style they used from that time.

"Its white and plastic and honestly kind of ugly."

That is an understatement !

I think the horn on the CV23 was a dealer add on. Never seems to be in the same location and I can't find it shown in the dealer brochures I looked through. On my 86 it's mounted on the side near driver. Pretty good location as it's out of the way. Having it on the bow seems like it would just gets in the way when crawling around up there.
