1979 CVX-16 Floor replacement with I/O
« on: September 21, 2018, 06:55:20 PM »
Hi - I see lots of documentation of hull floor replacement with outboards, but little to nothing for boats with I/O. If you have done this, please share pictures or your post. I'd like to do this boat right and learn from others along the way.

I gotta pull the motor after a catastrophic valve failure. I actually found a post on here from the guy I bought the boat from about the cylinders being stuck and he was trying to rotate the engine - as witnessed by the corrosion in the middle of the cylinder walls I have found after pulling the head...

So while the motor is out, id like to put a new floor in!

There are no "Blueprints" for any of our boats, but all are built the same way.
Most will start rippin' it apart and note how it was put together.
Some of the CVX18 thread might be close to how your is made ..
Search YouTube for "Friscoboater" should be a few by him.

You'll have to make some chooses on wood or composite and which resin to use .. But how you use them is about the same.
Most have used cardboard or pink insulation board to make forms.
I'll post some threads for reading ..

Curt redid his CVX-16.  I wonder if his thread is still around?

I've got a cvz-18 and an Intimidator rebuild thread on here somewhere.  Very similiar, fuel tank probably the biggest difference.

What I DO NOT see is the bilge area for a CVX16 with an I/O. I would like someone to post a picture of it to show how the mounts are and attach. I imagine it is boxed in with 2x4 but I could be wrong.

Pretty sure no one on the forum has done a CVX16SS rebuild, also Photobucket stop hosting and most of our pictures are gone.

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember my 16SS having the two rear mounts on the transom plate, and a single front mount.  The last set of photos are all V8 mounts (4 points).   All of us had a first time doing this, I took lot of measurements and pictures along the way.  I'm helping a friend redo a x-16, it's a merc 140, I could take a few pics of it.

That would be amazing! Send me pictures or at least a status of what you guys are doing. I have to pull and replace my motor and the gimbal ring too. I hear I can upgrade to a
Alpha ring if needed.

Full stringer, floor, and transom replacement.  Here are a couple pics.  Overall, not much different than an 18.

Thanks you. When you are getting the floor torn apart, please send me or post some pictures of the bilge and motor support for the front as well as how far up the hull you are going on the floor. Thanks!

The bilge/mount area is where nobody has posted pictures of a CVX16 I/O!

I have a couple of pictures from my V-179 rebuild with a mercruiser 140 for the bilge area. It will give you a good idea of what it should look like on a CV16ss

I can tell you the front engine mount board is a 2 x 6 glassed to the hull. My picture shows the factory mount which also included a piece of plywood. My front mount was dry rotted when I removed it.
