I would say anytime in September is good. The boat traffic is light, it's the wind that can sometimes be a factor. And yes the weeds are pretty bad in the lake this year for you jet guys.

I will likely be coming from the east side, launching at Greys Bay.  When you have a chance, could you list a few way points on your planned route so I can join up coming from there?   Of course there is the cell phone list, so Im sure it will all work out.  Sounds like fun.

Seems like we usually stick to the western side of the lake just because of the smaller waves. If you have the cell phone list we'll find you one way or another. Maybe we could meet up with you near Big island.

Smile, At the September 21 meet CGOAMN members will have the opportunity to have an action-shot professional quality portrait of their boat taken.  Conditions permitting, we will gather and do a one-by-one fly-by past Tom for a once in a summer chance at a photo to remember.

Tom P has his boat rigged with a special fly bridge and professional photographic equipment.  Sally and I got a great picture of our old wood boat from Tom earlier this year, and can say that it is great!

When asked, Tom offered a special 25% discount for CGOAMN members, who decide to download their pictures with a special CGOAMN discount code that will be available after the photo shoot.

That's great Chad. Thanks for setting that up. Tonka Jim, can you recommend a good place to do this between 1:30 and 3:30 (probably after we meet for lunch somewhere). I am thinking one of the less busy bays. Would be great to get a nice groups shot too.

So bring your boats to Minnetonka Sunday!!

Tom P  of 'Tonka Paparazzi lives down the street a few blocks from me on Fagerness Point. I met him briefly at the annual neighborhood memorial day block party this summer. He took a real nice shot of my SeaRay in July.

I spoke with 'Tonka Jim and let him know that if people are interested in getting out of the boats for a little while to get some lunch they are welcome at my place. I have a nice little grassy area down by the lake and can provide a place to sit and eat, a grill, & bathrooms. Also have all the picnic stuff(plates, utensils. ect.) left over from a party we had in June. You would just need to bring something to throw on the grill. I've got 2 docks but am sure some of my neighbors would let us use their docks to tie up to for a bit if needed.

Let me or Jim know. If it is something to group wants to do we can make it happen.

This late in the season, to pass by Tom to his north and east provides his best lighting.  He recommends a backdrop where there are no boat house covers to distract the shot.   The County park beach in the south east of Maxwell provides a building free backdrop, and a place to beach while queing up.

Wind permitting Tom likes this as a good spot for a fly by.  Also the bay around the corner to the north is no-wake and we can re-group there for a group shot.  Perhaps we can proceed here about 2:00 to 2:30 while the sun is still high.  Of course, if the wind is blowing hard from the NW, as predicted, we will need to find an alternate spot.

I am going to try to make it Sunday, with part of my family at least.  If all goes well, will maybe bring my new ride that is better suited for Lk mtka weeds.  Bravo 3 w/ dual counter-rotating props should chop thru milfoil like nobodies business.  Or maybe it will get tangled worse than a jet, who knows.

I'm going to try and make it (??) but it will be after lunch time at the earliest. Can someone PM me a street address of Tonka Jim's and the nearest landing for his place if you are doing lunch there.  I'll buzz by on the lake and see if anyone is still there.  If not, I will start hunting and use the telephone list.

Thanks

If its right around noon I am sure we will either be at Lord Fletchers or somewhere near by. I really hope you can make it. I NEED to see that orange CV16!

I think you meant Kips place not Tonka Jim's. Kip is almost directly across from Lord Fletchers.

Tonka Jim is our official tour guide. He grew up on the lake and no one knows it better.

@oldfishguy - Jim and I talked today about doing the lunch around 1:00 PM. Like Jason said we'll be across from Fletchers and to the east a little  n the no-wake zone.  If everyone is still there you won't be able to miss the boats.

Looks like we will have good weather on Sunday. It  may be a little windy so we will stay out of the big water if it is.
I will be at the ramp around 9:00 AM & I'm hopping to have all boats under way by 10:00.
If it's not too windy we will make a swing around big island & head south west around brackets point to lake Minnetonka regional park on the south west end of the lake. From there north thru cooks bay to the Mound docks where there is a Caibou coffee & Super America. Depending on the time we will either go around thru spring park bay or thru black lake to Kips around 1:00. From Kips it's only a 10 minute run to the area for pictures & the ramp on Maxwell bay. If anyone wants to continue exploring, we can head north west to west arm, forest lake, harrison bay. We should be back at the ramp around 6:00.

IF ANYONE HAS ANYWHERE ON THE LAKE THEY WANT TO EXPLORE, PLEASE POST!

I may have missed someone but it looks like at least 12 boats;
Jason, Josh, Gregg, Tom V, Joe, Brian, Jeff, Jerry, Scott E, Chad, Shawn, Oldfishguy.
Bring your anchor if you have one, some of us will have to shuttle at Kips.
If you don't want to grill at Kips, Fletcher's is right across the channel .

Let me know if you have any questions.

Well, I have to bow out too.  I got the carb put on, but it still does the same thing it was doing at Red Wing.  On the first try it starts, runs for about 20 seconds, and dies. Then I crank and crank and crank and doesn't fire. Going to try spark plugs next just because they're old, but after that I'm at a loss.

Anyway, have fun tomorrow. I'll join you next time.

Spark plugs don't just "Go Bad" check the ignition Module. Most auto parts stores can do that.

Spark plugs don't just "Go Bad" check the ignition Module. Most auto parts stores can do that.

10 year old spark plugs are due for a change, but I don't really think that's the problem either.

And I'm not telling the whole story, either.  At the meet, I could get it to run if someone else cranked the starter and I played with the throttle to open farther than the neutral stop.  Once I could get it to idle on its own, I could run it, shut down and start like normal.  If I let it cool down at all, I had to start over.  To me, that sounds like a fuel problem.  But after the carb rebuild, I'm at a loss.

By the way, this is the Seaflite, not the CVX-20.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled thread.

Sounds like fuel pump or leaking vacuum / fuel lines.

Had an awesome time. I counted a total of 11 boats. Not bad considering a chilly breezy morning. But it warmed up quick and turned out to be a really nice day.

The photo shoot with the Tonka Paparazzi was fun too. Can't wait to see how those pictures turned out! Thanks for setting that up Chad. Great idea.

Thank you to Jason for starting this thread, and Tonka Jim for the great trip around the lake with thoughtful stops along the way.  Everyone was looking good on the water!  Too bad we had to leave at 3pm, but we enjoyed meeting all of you at the stops and the landing.

Thanks again to Jim and Kip for putting together a great outing - the girls and I had a really nice time.
The company was great, and it turned out to be a really nice fall Sunday.  Sorry about your sunglasses Jeff - hopefully the magnet will work to get them back.
Lets get out again before it snows.
Love the new Cobalt, didn't feel a wave all day.  Doesn't have the same 'flake appeal' of my cvx20, but it sure is practical.  I bet I only used 5 or 6 gallons of gas, that is unfamiliar to me.
As always, many thanks to my helpers at the boat landing.
