Thoughts?
From what I understand the CV21 hull was designed around a jet drive. True or not hangin an IO on it might change the handling characteristics?

All the literature that I've seen says that they designed it for a jet...  I'm really not sure what that means though.  The jet assemble is similar in weight to a stern drive, so that wouldn't change too much.

I know that a jet puts different pressures on the transom than a stern drive...  Maybe someone smarter than me can weigh in on this one.

That'd be a cool project for sure!  If I ever found a total basket case, I'd put a front 'rumble seat' in...never driven (or even ridden in) a jet, so I'm not sure how they're different.

Since they're banned at our favorite lake, I'd have to really think hard about owning one...

This wouldn't be a terrible place to start...  No reserve...

If it were closer, I might just do it...  But, I have a project to finish already...

Isn't that the one that had a tree fall on it?  Dunno...that's too much damage for me...

There's an Orange/White CV-21 one in MO that shows up on CL all the time...there's also a Blue/Lt. Blue Scimitar in Eastern IA that appears every spring...

The boat isn't the problem, its paying for the 2nd garage!  :D

I guess that I would be really happy with a scimitar, CV-21, intimidator, CVX-18, CV-23, or CV-21.  I would even like a CV-19ss.

I have a long time to look, and there isno real hurry.  I sent an e-mail to Bob and Jeremy Probst to get their viewpoints on the hull transformation on re-power.  The e-bay photo's on that tree damaged boat were great to see the transom.  The intake grate section would provide some interesting dynamics, but it looks like a pretty standard keel setup.

As a side note, while digging for fun stuff on my computer about CV-21's, I came across this video that I never posted...

Come along with me on a nite time ride in Bob's highly modified CV-21 with twin LS1 powered jets...

HOLD ON! (Don't forget to turn your speakers up!)

Ha!  I was thinking about starting this thread a few weeks ago, except mine was "what boat would you buy immediately if it was up for sale?"

I know what mine is.  Shaun (Grinder)'s CVX-18.  Same color and year as my CVX-16 but a little larger and faster.  Oh yeah, I would buy that in an instant.

The CV-21 was offered in a stern drive in 1971.  Do not remember where I saw the brochure.  I may have it somewhere.  I also have seen it in a V-drive that was on Ebay some time back.  I have ridden in Both of Bob's CV-21's and they both are a kick in the pants!  Both highly modified.  Would love to make mine dance like that!!

Keep in mind, the CV23 was designed as a jet boat. The grate area is still molded on the bottom, unlike the Scimitar which was designed as an I/O.  There is no problem of speed and handling of a CV23 I/O.  Therefore a CV21 should also make a good I/O.  If there were any CV 21 I/O's built, they probably would have been Glastron powered which was Volvo/Ford without trim, so that hull would also take extensive modification.
Every day is a great day at the lake!

Hey Brian, according to this artical from power boat magizine, the CV-21 hull is particuarly designed for a jet drive and a heavy motor, I've never really checked one out to see the difference, but I do know when you get a hull out of "balance" it takes some engineering to correct it, that being said, it would be interesting to set one up with a hot little small bolck Chevy and a Mercruiser I/O, modifying the jet section to a wider pad.

Tough question, I like so many of them, but I think my all time favorite Carlson is the 1977 CVX-20 Deluxe Jet, Orange Flake, pristine original inside & out (favorite interior pattern), 460 engine.  Currently trying to restore its battle scarred younger brother with the 455 olds, but if I ever find a pristine original '77 that is not 2000 miles away, I would like to acquire.

Another one I think would be great fun to build/run...  a 1972 CV-19 OB, Green Flake; get one in ok condition, good windshield & hardware, but rough finish and interior, totally restore with new flake gel, interior, panel gauges, light modifications, late model large Mercury outboard (175), push mid 60s I'm guessing?  Is that a stable hull, pad to ride on?  I think that boat would look awesome keeping pace with all/some of its big bore brothers out there.  Can't wait to see Steve's finished product!

The CV-21 & CV-23s are awesome as well?  where does it end?  :-/   ;D

HAY Mark ...

CV19 O/B in Texas
http://forum.cgoamn.com/index.php?topic=2351.0

The 1971 CV19 was offered a I/O or Jet, 1972 was also.
The 1971 CV21 was jet only according to brochure.

A CV21 I/O would be an awsome ride !
