Custom pleated vinyl run
« on: December 06, 2017, 07:31:44 AM »
Hey everyone. I'm just about to order some vinyl and have it heat pleated. The vinyl is a very close match to what was found in the early 70's gold CV's. If anyone needs any, please let me know. I'm doing an initial run of 10 yards, but I can have more done. Cost is $10/yd for the pleating and $15/yd for the fabric. So $25/yd total, which I find reasonable. That's actual cost, too. They're also trying a smaller run of the 3x3 squares to cover the rear transom area. Fabric is Morbern Yorktown Squash YT202.

It took a few phone calls, but I found two places that can heat pleat. Not sure who I will use, but they both were $10/yd with min run of 10 yards. It’s not a money maker for them, but it was interesting to talk about a dying art and how production has been lost to overseas suppliers. From two brief conversations, I’d like to give both these shops my business.

Also, after talking to Precision, if anyone needs a different color, they can splice in the fabric on the same run. So if anyone needs a different color, I’d be happy to add it to the order.

I'm leaning towards the one with the Miami blue tag. That's Yorktown Squash. A little more brown in it, looks better in the sun. But I'm still torn.

Is it OK to post contact info in "Vendor and Repair Resources" section ?

Hard to say color match on my laptop ...
As long as your replacing all vinyl .. should look fine !

I'd say it's okay to post it in vendor resources. The guy in NJ said there's a handful of pleating machines around the country, but not well known. They used to to a million yards a year before jobs went overseas.

Now I'm second guessing the colors and looking for a closer match. I pulled the interior panel off for a sample.
