Problem: The Mercruiser hose from the circulation pump to the thermostat housing is too short to reach the Volvo Penta Thermostat housing and the VP hose is routed right through the area the alternator occupies.
Solution: Cut the Mercruiser hose just before it bends toward the housing, cut the VP hose to mate with the Merc hose and join together with a piece of pvc pipe.
To mate the 2 different size water inlet hoses from the transom to thermo housing a similar solution was used. Trim a piece of VP hose and connect it to the Merc hose with a pvc reducer.
Problem: Mount a Saginaw power steering pump on a Ford motor that didn't have power steering.
Solution: CVF Racing out of New Prague, MN has the answer! A perfect fit out of the box, no mods needed.
Next I needed to raise the front of the engine cover 1 inch to clear the exhaust risers. A bit of aluminum flat stock was used to make a bracket to screw the cover to.
No pictures as I was working close to a deadline.
Betty was coming up for the weekend and she said " There better be a boat in the water when I get there"
My reply...." uh...How 'bout Sunday?"
Needless to say I worked late Fri. night, again late into Saturday night, 06:30 Sunday morning found me back in the garage and at 1:35 Sunday afternoon
I called out to Betty
"Time to head to the lake!"
The finished Power Plant
At the ramp
The first splash went well. The lake was a little rough so we didn't stay out long. As always there are a few adjustments that are needed.
