Looking for a cool vintage boat
« on: April 12, 2018, 02:52:02 PM »
Question for you experts.  I've owned a couple of boats in my day, nothing large but want something totally cool, kind of like a muscle boat.  Probably only get it out 10 times a year to drive around the lake and hang out in a cove.  I'd love to have a Scimitar but funds won't seem to allow that.  I also REALLY like the CVX 20 jet.  My main question is this.  Is a CVX 20 big enough for 4 people and a cooler?  I don't really need a cuddy and Glastrons don't have any really cool open bow's that I am aware of.  I'd like to hear your comments.

Thanks,

Mike

Hmm...are you wanting a classic?  There are some open bow Carlson's from the early 2000's that would fit the bill.

'78 Glastron Carlson CVZ 18 boat VERY RARE - $8500 (Jonesboro)
https://fayar.craigslist.org/boa/d/78-glastron-carlson-cvz-18/6552906512.html

1978 Glastron Carlson CVZ 18 "bowrider" boat for sale. This is an extremely RARE and collectible boat. This is the first year of only 4 years that the CVZ models were made. The boat is in pristine condition for it's year. This boat is a must see in person to appreciate.
Another rare feature this boat has is the fiberglass bow cover or the fiberglass deck cover (as it's also called). Back when this boat was manufactured, this was an optional item for an extra charge. This bow cover is a hard fiberglass material exactly the same as the boat and when snapped on, makes the boat a "closed bow" versus a bowrider.
-The entire boat is all original parts and interior & still runs great.
-Only a 2-owner boat.
-This boat has been kept inside in a climate-controlled environment it's entire life.
-powerful V8 engine.
-Trailer is included.
Price is $8500.00 Or Best Offer

No cool open bow classic Glastrons?  Bite your tongue!    The CVZ-18 is convertible so to speak, but the front is a bit cramped for adults.   Overall, the classic Glastron lineup passenger compartment really didn't change that much between 16's, 18's, and 20's.   The 23's have a cuddy which would easily fit a large cooler and gear and free up the passenger area.   I've had four adults and cooler in a 16, an 18, and in 20's.    Keep an eye out for the GCOTD section that Gregg updates regularly.  Plenty out there, but to start, what is your price point, and are you wanting a water ready or project craft?

IMHO.... if you want to enjoy a nice day on the water with 4 adults and a nice size cooler your doing to want at least a cvx-20. Anything smaller you will feel crowded. The bigger ? Is, out board, inboard or jet.?..  all are good and have there advantages.. outboards are quick, inboards get the best mileage and the jets are all about the show!  16 or 18’s are ok if you plan on stoping a few times to have a drink and stretch you legs or just watch the day go by on the beach. The options are endless.. good luck.

Ok tongue bitten.  I Do like the CVZ but still the rear end of the CVX is outstanding and I think my budget is somewhere around $5k.  I really prefer vintage so the 2000's boats might not be for me.  Looking for a slight project but just don't want to have to mess with replacing a transom or stringers.

Thanks for your input!

None of us do, BUT with a 30 to 40 year old boat rot is almost always there to some degree.
Keep an eye on the GCOTD thread ...
