Just buying parts for the engine V179-aq130c
« on: November 20, 2020, 08:50:58 PM »
so winters on here and I'm doing like last year and just buying parts for install when it gets warm or in spring. Finding some engine parts is a challenge indeed. Some of the hardest parts to find seem to come from Wisconsin! or over seas-Sweden and Greece mostly. I have found parts from a B20 engine in some of the Volvo cars and also some parts in Porsche and Volkswagens.---taking awhile but still building slowly.

That makes it all the more satisfying when completed, great way to spend your time in the off season.  I was wondering what parts from a VW would work, then I noticed the air deflector seal on the spark plugs wires, definitely air cooled VW.   I'm guessing the dizzy is a bosch item?

Ian has a complete & running Volvo Penta motor / outdrive for sale in Mpls. MN.
Not sure of model, but it's out of a early 70's CV16SS .. maybe 130 HP / 270 drive.
Don't think he logs in here often, but is on FB.

mostly the electric on the VW and Porsche which is Bosch stuff fits my engine, yes the dist is Bosch, amazing how many different part numbers are based on the same distributor. Fuel pump also is a German brand . A simple thing giving me trouble right now is the felt gasket under the timing gear cover. I know its out there but have not found it yet. The fuse block  I found in Green Bay
I will check out that engine for sale if only just to see it. Mines early 70s aq130 with 270 also. I have also had success with Sierra brand boat parts their page has a cross reference to Volvo part numbers. It is pretty fun to go out in the garage and putter on this. Not even sure if I will enjoy it on the water as much as the build?
