Four thumbs up on your find!
You may be a lucky man in the motor category. Someone replaced the 460 with a 429.
385 Series Engines get a lot of bad press. Mostly from Ford haters.
There are lots of improvements that don't cost any more than the stock stuff you may be replacing.
So do your researchDon't let anybody talk you into high hp. These Are Torque Monsters - and you can make 500 hp without sacrificing torque.
Gotta have torque in a boat.
Looks like you're good in the intake and carb dept. (Can't see inside the carb though
) Don't know if you have space but these motors respond to a carb spacer pretty well - Cheap mod.
Find out what year it is. Early 429s are leftovers from the Horsepower wars. They have awesome heads for Cast Iron stock.
IF the heads are stock.
They were under-rated in HP by Ford and made an actual 450 HP stock.
They were called Super Cobra Jets - Tbirds. In Cop cars, they had a different designation. Also early Lincoln Marks. up to and including some in 73s
Later years, they got smogged down and had lower compression.
Find the head numbers.
God forbid the block is toast, but if it is keep the heads.
If they are early heads, they flow almost as well as the Edelbrock heads.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2045/overview/make/ford Do some digging on Edelbrocks site.
Also -
http://www.429-460.com/ They can help out when you find your Block/Head numbers.
Do a Pertronix or some kind of "Module" in the distributor. - May have already been done. Cheap mod.
OK so I'm jealous .....
