Title: PLUM CRAZY from the Finger Lakes
Post by: ford-bldr on September 17, 2019, 12:40:08 PM
Danny Mayes here.

I live on Seneca Lake in Upstate NY. Largest of the Finger Lakes - 630ft deep Yes 6-3-0 maybe deeper.
I inherited a 75 CV16 in Fuchsia. My wife named it Plum Crazy. My neighbor calls it " Purple Pension Eater "
A good friend's kids had it as a project and knew how much I appreciated G/Cs. I told them if they ran out of gas on it to let me know.
They gave it to me with visitation rights.

The most expensive boat.....

Boating all my life with many other competing interests.

I was Extreme before it was cool...got the body to prove it.

Everything was done wrong to this poor boat. You'll see a lot of questions and I'll contribute info to the forum as much as I can.

Welcome to the forum Dan !
Looks like a good starting point ..
Are you going to restore it back to original .. or change a few things ?

WELL.......

Might be best to do a Restomod.

It was painted with an Awlgrip type paint and the kids did a pretty good job of getting most of it off but the gelcoat is damaged. I'm
 going to paint it.
The two halves were glassed together at some time. REALLY Glassed together!  I've rebuilt the transom without splitting the boat. (Post
 to follow)
The windshield was painted black on the inside.
The "For Sale" sign was attached to the windshield with duct tape - made it all gooey - (Another post to follow)
I'm missing the bars that come off the back of the windshield, and one of the end caps amidships.
No seats. (Copied your seat post!)

I may stay in the same flavor as I really like the classic look. But like my cars, the casual person have to look close to tell that it's a
 restomod. ;)

Attached is a pic of my 1968 Meadowlark yellow 6 cylinder convertible. Now a Shelby clone wit 385hp and a tubular A arm suspension
with 4 wheel discs etc...  To most people it's a Shelby. To Shelby people it an abomination. Hot Rodders and Restomodders give it a nod
 of respect.
 I think that's what I'll have to do with the CV16. Otherwise I'll have $10,000 in a $5000 boat (I'll just have $7000 in a $5000 boat!

We understand various levels of crazy when it comes to boats and cars.  Now if you graft a mustang front end on a Glastron, you might get odd looks.  Good luck with your project, keep us updated, love resto pics in the winter.

Maybe that's where George Barris got some of his wacky ideas!

I dug into the boat a couple of years ago - Then I got interrupted with a joint project. (See pic) Lazer 17

My buddy gave me the motor for this boat. 140 Evi.

I'll post the picks that I have. Lost the stick with a the better ones so I'll have to pull them from my phone.
