78 cv-23 ole blue

After many years of faithful service, its time to return the favor..   44 years old.  still a cool boat!

23's are nice boats, but a bit more involved in restoration.   Assuming you plan to document the full rebuild, I'd be curious to know the current costs to do so.   Will this be a wood/polyester rebuild or are you planning some composite work?  Any upgrades planned?

I?m thinking if glastron can make this thing last for 40 years with regular wood and glass that?s probably the way I?m going..and that?s what I?ve done on all the other ones I?ve done, as far as upgrading motor and outdrive.. I used all the original parts on the timi I did last year. So I have a parts boat from 1989 with a nice 350 chev and a Alfa 1 outdrive I?m going to use. Nothing fancy.  New paint and interior with some nice air charged pedestals for driver and passenger.  As soon as this heat brakes Im going to try to have it done for next year..

Any mods to the transom? 

One of my favorite models.

Just finished a 16' fishing boat and was not impressed with the current plywood options.
Got some stuff from HD ( Brazilian ) that curled one way one day and curled the other way a week later.
Found some older plywood on CL and used as much as I could.

Love the Total Boat Resins.

So the 23 is to big for the garage so I found this paint booth to paint her in when the time comes. Anyone else use something like this?

I have a friend who owns one, though smaller than the one you have pictured.    It works pretty well, but he did have to add some vent and a blower fans to it.   I may consider one myself for use inside the shop.  Got me thinking though, any chance you could rent some time in a commercial downdraft booth?

My buddy jeeptron and myself split the cost. And it was used?. Or what he said.. set up once but not used? has two fans, one to inflate and one for circulation. With filters to clean circulation.  There are a few paint places around but only one was big enough for the 23?s   and then you have to be on there schedule.  I think this should work good..?    Our two 23?s will go through it this summer and then we would be willing to rent it out if anyone else would like to try.

Got all the flake for old blue. Now just need it to warm up so I can start back on her..  this thing is going to be loaded with flake!

The shrink wrap is off!    I can?t believe it?s been  3 years since old blue has seen the light. And I forgot just how much I love this boat? it?s been a busy week!  New transom, stringers all cabsilled in. Thanks to Joe for the cabsill, went to Fargo and got $1100 worth of Cossa board, to do both old blue and the 19 jet I got a couple years ago also.  Plus some for Joe and Jeff. And at $90 a sheet it better than using marine plywood. I will be glassing everything in this week with any luck. And then do the floor and start the painting process the plan is to have her done for the reunion at TI this year. And with any luck both of them.  Fingers crossed.

Transom in. Stringers in. Floor in. Foam in. Now final layer of csm on floor, and cut out key hole for outdrive.   And vinyl on order so Chris can start planning interior?. Then all the sanding and fix the outside and paint?.. then motor and out drive in, and gauges, and everything else I?m forgetting?. maybe, just maybe have it done for the gathering.  :o

I can?t believe you guys wouldn?t go get this ski machine, for free!  This is definitely an addiction.   And its blue, my weakness.. if anyone wants this let me know.    He was going to cut it up and scrap it.
