Boat Trailer Wood Inner Fenders
« on: July 26, 2024, 12:26:37 PM »
Hi -

I have an original Vanson trailer. I replaced the wood on the inner fenders and one has deteriorated again and has just started rubbing the tire (only about 3 years old and in the water maybe 10 times). I used "Marine grade plywood" from Home Depot. What are you guys using that doesn't fall apart every few years? Or do you just cover them in resin before putting the carpet on?

Thanks!

I thinned down ( 95% / 5% ) polyester resin / styrene and coated wood parts.

You might think about taking it one step farther and coating them with gel coat after the resin.

years ago I acquired a small thin plastic resin sheet in black (don't recall exactly what the material was) and cut/carpeted it,  and riveted it to the inside of the fenders. I was able to bend it slightly and it formed just right and it worked perfect, will never rot or need replacement. I can maybe post a pic of it later this evening when I get home.

This would be great!

Sorry, couldn't find any good pictures of my fender project. I know the top ski/wakeboard boat companies use the material for their seat bottoms (under the foam and vinyl, but for the life of me can't remember what its called. You can get thin panels of it that will work great for that purpose. I'll keep looking.
