Title: Trying to Save a Glastron
Post by: _UnderWater_ on August 03, 2013, 12:17:09 AM
Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to say hi and as I'm sure most newbs new beg for help.  I'll spare everyone the story for now but I have an I believe older Glastron in need of help.  I have looked quite a bit and can't find anything that is exact to what I have.  I have included a link to a slideshow of some pics I just took tonight.  Seems to be a 1962 Skiflite yet the seats in the pictures look way different. Plus mine do not fold down.

If anyone can help me with IDing what I have I would be very thankful.  The title and registration is no help.

Second if there are any Evinrude guys into older ones I have a 1961 Lark III hanging off the back that ran like a top for a year and half.  Then it lost spark I assume and was mothballed.

For anyone interested I'm in the West St Paul area and Its my roommate and I tacking this project.

ps If it asks for a password its "Glastron"  :)

Nice looking boat! Welcome to the group - there is a wealth of information available from the people here!!

I'm unfortunately not as great a resource as some of them, but in looking at your pictures, there is one item that I might have a small hint for you with, and that is that some models of the Evinrude Lark had a "push-pull" (my words for it) fuel system in where one of the lines to the fuel tank is an air pressure hose which they used instead of the more common vacuum pump that most of us are used to.

I have an old Lark from my Dad that gave me fits last year and I never did get it to work right before putting the project aside for another date. But I can tell you that problems with system are very common to make it run very "clunky," if at all, and commonly makes it look like spark problems.

Good luck with your restoration!   :)

Thanks for the help! I have the full set of factory manuals and will be going thru them.  So far the engine no longer cranks from the key but will when jumped to the coil.  So thats issue 1.  Issue 2 is lack of spark while cranking.  The boat was on the water running and someone kicked or otherwise knocked the box that contains the starter coil and what no.  Thats the story I was told.

Cool boat!

Jerry probably knows the old OMC motors better than anyone here. Hopefully he chimes in.

I work in SSP so can maybe swing by some day after work and give you a hand.

Yea, drag it down to Red Wing this year. We would all love to see it in person. I don't think anyone in the club has one of those.

That definitely looks worth saving.
I noticed it doesn't have any navigation light on the bow. Anyone know if the water patrol would jump on you for that or only if out after dusk?

It does not have any nav lights at all.  Never had em.  Is that normal on something this old?  Anyone know for sure what it is?  Looks similar to a 62 skiflite but my seats are different.   You can ALL for sure bet this old girl will be in Red Wing this year if I can get her to fire up.  I know I'm close.  Seems like the Points/Condenser are not getting power.  No Spark on either cylinder.  I dont care if I have to jump it from the coil or pull start it.  This baby has to run.  It did and will again!

It a 1964 or 65 Skiflite V-142 ...
Same color both years so hard to say which ...

Don't know how old Johnson/Evinrude serial numbers work but sure is a lot of " 5 " in it ...
So might be a 1965 motor ...
