Tank renew in Eden Parairie/ Shakopee  is who did my rusty CV-16 tank did a good job and i think came with a warranty as well. It was about 100 if I remember right and less than a week to get done
I think this has become an addiction.

I had tank renew in Iowa do the one in Phoenix Rising. It turned out great. had them give it the life time coating. Warranty as long as you own the boat. I think for the full works it was $230

I know not everyone will love this suggestion, but I put in that glass see-through filter so I could see what my fuel looked like before I started digging the tank out of the boat.  I found out pretty quickly where I needed to start.  Obviously you can't run like this daily...but for $10 and 5 minutes to splice it in, I felt it was worth doing.  I knew after 1/2 tank of gas where my issues were:

I have one also on Phoenix Rising for extra filtration.

Something everyone should have.

Except the I/O version isn't see-through...which defeats the purpose of it since we already have water separating filters on ours.

Jerry ..
What brand, model, etc. is that ?

Trailrated ...
After 40 years there's no telling what's in your tank, but most likely it's not good !
Joe's idea is the cheapest, and would be what a shop would do ... more or less ...

My tank was cleaned and sealed by PO. at a dealer/shop about 6 years ago, think paper work said $70.

I'd want to know that that's what was wrong before I did it though...why spend all that time, effort & money if its not needed?

It's a Racor 120R I think. And yes that's for an outboard. The inboard isn't clear plastic, but you can still drain it and check for water. Anybody with a built-in fuel tank needs one.

We already know. Lets fire up the time machine..................

Speaking of fuel filters, I finally pulled my carb and found this in the fuel line filter that is part of the carb itself!

That can't be good.

I put in both the water/fuel separator in the engine bay and the small glass filter up under the dash. I do not know how the "separator" will handle rust sediment. I put it in mostly for water contamination. I KNOW my tank is rusty. Unfortunately, I don't think I can remove it without splitting the hull which I have NO intention of doing so I'll need to come up with something else.
So what is wrong with leaving the glass inline filter in place? Potential leak? If mine leaks it will drip on my feet.

Okay guys I made serious ground today with the carburetor. I bought a rebuilt kit and pulled it tonight.. Also took measurements of the gas tank.. 36"L x 18"W x 7.5"H. I wouldn't mind a new tank but then I would have to deal with securing it properly under there.. The idea of having it professionally renewed is especially appealing. Are there any tricks to getting this tank out? I did buy a siphon hose so this weekend I plan on emptying it out and pulling it.

Mine just has some straps that go over it and secure to the platform it is sitting on.

Needless to say, that carb looks pretty nasty.

I think it's just those two bolts going into the floor at the front of the tank. Take those out disconnect the hoses (after emptying of course) and it looked like it would just slide out. (From what I remember anyway.)

You've probably already done this, but if you crawl under the dash on the passenger side with a flashlight you can get a fairly decent view of the top or sides of the tank. I don't remember any straps, but then again I wasn't looking for any either.

No straps on that design, same as Phoenix Rising. Remove the rubber hold downs and hoses and it should pull out. If it doesn't take a pry bar and lift it up mine was lightly stuck to the floor.

That's what my carb looked like when I opened it up! Some how that rust gets past the filters. Glad to see you tug into it! Keep us posted on how everything goes.
