Summer Kick-Off Reminder & Update
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:27:42 PM »
Reminder:
Tomorrow is March 1st, which means you will now be able to book your campsite through the Reserve America site for Honey Creek State Park.

Update:
Iowa DNR has cleared us for all planned events, as well as "concessions."  The Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing now to determine whether or not I must provide them with an event insurance policy.

Since we're going to have a public beach party & boat vote, I've got a place willing to set up a grill and provide burgers and hot dogs - CGOA members get their lunch for free, but these guys have to be able to sell to the public.  I think they are planning on something like $3.25 for a burger, bag of chips, and a canned soda.

The next thing I need to do is go measure out some of these beaches & make sure there is close parking available for the viewing public.
I'm thinking we need 250 feet or so of sand beach ... ??

I think your thinking on beach length sounds good Dan and $3.25 for what they're offering sounds reasonable.

Great work on everything! Can hardly wait till June!

I'll try to make it if I can...  I probably woudn't be able to tow a boat that far (and my boat is a mess right now.  It's hard to be certain on any plans...  But, I will try.

"The Iowa DNR uses the reserveamerica.com system for reservations.  Here is the Iowa DNR site with link to reserveamerica ... http://www.iowadnr.gov/Destinations/StateParksRecAreas/ReservationSystem.aspx

Currently, the online system only allows the calendar as far as April 18th (tomorrow it will go to the 19th, etc.).  The North Campground at Honey Creek State Park has 50A electric hookup & water, you'll have to use a dump station for waste.  The South Campgrounds will have sewer hookup at each site.  $16/night for the north campground, $19/night for the south.  The larger lake views will be to the south, but the two campgrounds are really only a few hundred meters apart.  The north campground has 3-rows of pads with 2 more rows that shoot off perpendicular.  The south campground is linear, with a shower and restroom facility in the middle.  Sites line both sides of the access drive.  There is parking at the entrance & the dead-end of the south campground access drive ...  If I were making my own personal choice, I'd probably go for the end of the south campground, site 124.  Sites 98-107 surround the restroom & shower facilities, 137-142 line the side of the access drive directly opposite the facilities.  You should be able to use the reservation system online to view a map of the campgrounds."

The above was copied from a previous thread ... yes, we should stick to the south side campsites of the State Park (make sure you're not doing the RV sites for the Resort property - they are $45/night and across Honey Creek

I have used Reserve America before when traveling with my RV.  So I already have and account/membership, and was able to go in a couple of hours ago and reserve campsite 123 in the south loop.  However, I tried to book one for OleRed and it will only let me have one reservation at a time in any campground. Try setting up an account first and see if it will open up reservations for Reserve America members.

Thanks for the updates on registration, guys.
I'll keep a little spreadsheet going as long as you guys keep posting the site reservations -
that way we'll have a pretty accurate on-going head count.
