Transome Help
« on: April 24, 2012, 06:45:47 AM »
Hey guys started working on the boat again man its been crazy around here. I cut and fit the boards last night i got 2 layers of 3/4 plywood heres the question. If i double them up they fit behind the floation boxes but with the back part of boat it only gives me 1 3/4 inch thickness. I tried 3 peices but noway i can get it behind the boxes. Is that thick enough or am going to have make a step transome over where the transome assembley is and the gimbel housing comes through?

Thanks Tom

1 3/4 thickness is ok Tom, it's not really a flex thing, it's the unthreaded portion of the studs in the gimbal housing, 2 1/2 of unthreaded stud, the inner plate is 1/2 and then there is a thick washer goes under the nut on the stud. If you think the stud nuts are going to bottom out, you can use a 1/4 shorter bolt, rather than the studs.
